Beyond Good & Evil 2 is reportedly in a state of "development crisis", with several of its developers reportedly claiming that they believe it's close to being cancelled.

It's been some time since we last heard anything about Beyond Good & Evil 2. In fact, the last time we saw it was back in 2019 for one of its Space Monkey update videos. Since then, its Twitter account has been silent beyond retweeting some art last year and announcing that Michel Ancel had left Ubisoft.

This silence has left gamersܫ wondering where the project is and what sort of game it might end up being so many years after its initial announcement. Reliable Battlefield and GTA leaker Tom Henderson is reporting that the game is "suffering a development crisis".

, "The game is suffering a development crisis from a lack of creative direction since the title went into development, which was worsened by Michael Ancel's departure from the studio in September 2020. What's worse, is that the game currently doesn't fit with Ubisoft's future ambitions and goals with future titles. The game has been described as "Skull & Bones 2.0" and although the game hasn't been canned officially, some developers believe it's a matter of time before it is".

Henderson later Tweeted to elaborate on the game being cancelled, saying, "The game is still in development, but a couple of people I spoke with BELIEVE it's a matter of time before it's canned". Henderson later admitted that he'd had a hard time getting information about the project corroborated, implying that information about the game is hard to come by.

With so little shown of Beyond Good & Evil 2 in the past few years, it's no surprise that it's in a rough state, but the prospect of it being cancelled after so much fan-fare was put into its announcement is surprising. Similarly to Skull & Bones, we probably won't be hearing from it for some time.
