Well, after killing the Second Prince and sending his father scurrying, you now get to meet his older brother: The First Price of the Flowing Sands. Preparations For The First Prince Of The Flowing Sands
Preparation for this fight is pretty simple, as The First Prince doesn't inflict status effects, or really require any particular gimmicks that you should build around. Basically, the First Prince is just a big, beefy boy who tanks your hits and hits back twice as hard. So, you will want to be decked out in the most substantial armor you ꦍhave access t🥀o build and the hardest-hitting weapon you have at your disposal.
I fought him while wearing the Ebongold armor set, and it seemed up to the task of providing enough defense to survive even the heaviest blows. However, I fought him using the Twin Serpent Staff despite the Wind Bear Staff being available, and I definitely felt like I was doing a pretty piddly amount of damage - I'd recommend using the Wind Bear Staff if you want things to go more smoothly. I would also recommend that you have the Pillar Stance unlocked. It'll make it easier to land big hits when The First Prince is left v𒆙ulnerable but too far away to hit with a melee attack (which will happen frequently).
There are obviously a ton of additional skills that will make life easier if you have unlocked. With how expansive the skilltree is, it doesn't make sense to go into that stuff in great detail here. However, if you are cuꦬrious on tha♏t front, you can read some great suggestions here.
The First Prince Of The Flowing Sands' Attacks
You can look at The First Prince as 🔥having three ranges. We'll start with the farthest range. When you are on the other end of the arena from him, he is going to perform one of three attacks...
- His Lunging Attack
- His Charging Attack
- Or his Pouncing Attack
Of these three attacks, the only one that is truly dangerous is the Pouncing Attack, as once it is in motion it is nearly unreactable. So, you will want to dodge the instant his arms are fully raised above his head, as that is when he's about to pounce. The🍒 other two are easily dodged or run around, so they aren't really a threat.
His lunging attack is a good opportunity to dish out damage and get close to him (which is a better range to be at). If he stretches his arms out to the side, he is about to lunge forward. He will swipe at you in the air twice as he does this. Both of these swipes and his lunge are quite slow, so you should be able to easily dodge them. Once he hits the ground, he'll be vulnerable for a few seconds, though get to his left side, as he will slam his right hand down as he gets up. Make sure to lay into him when h𒈔e is on the groun🍨d.
When you are in front of the First Prince at a medium range, he will still use his Pouncing Attack and Lunging Attack, but he will also start to use his palm stomps quite a bit. The weaker slams always come as a pair. Try to time the second palm slam for a perfect dodge. If he really winds up and slams his palm down hard, he won't follow up with another. The speed and impact of these palm slams make them easy enough to differentiate between. However, in general, I don't think you should be spending much time at this medium range, as that is when the First Prince is at his most dangerous.
The final range is up close and personal. If you are right up next to him, the First Prince only has a handful of attacks, and they aren't particularly scary. Circle around to his backside, and you will only need to worry about his tail swipe. This attack is highly telegraphed (with a butt waggle) and easy to dodge. If you are close to one of the First Prince's arms, he'll swipe at you with a backhand. This is another pretty clearly telegraphed🌺 attack, so, if you🔴 see him raising the back of his hand, get ready to dodge.

Attack |
Attack Description |
Counter |
---|---|---|
Heavy Palm Slam |
The First Prince wil⛎l raise his hand up into the air and slam it down. |
When y♚ou see him raising his hand, dodge away from him. |
Palm Slam Combo |
The First Prince has a palm slam attack that he will follow up with a second palm slam. These weaker slam attacks💜 🍌always come in a pair. |
There is a rhythm to these attacks. So, when he slams his palm down, time the secondไ palm slam for a perfect dodge. You can also just dodge around him and attack his rear. |
Backhand Attack |
The First Prince will wind up a backhand attack if you are getting up-close and person🦩al. |
Look for the wind-up and dash through the strike. This attack is relatively slow-moving, so it isn't too hard to dodge. |
Tail Whip |
When attacking the prince's backside, he will 🥀whip you with his tail. |
If you see him starting to shake his butt, you know he is about to whip you with his tail. Dodge when his butt starts to shake. |
Lunging Swipe Attacks |
If the First Prince stretche✤s his arms out to the side, he is about to lunge forward. He will swipe💮 at you in the air twice as he does so before crashing down to the ground. |
Both of these swipes and his lunge are quite slow, so you should be able to easily dodge them. Once he hits the ground, he'll be vulnerable for a few seconds, though get to his left side, as he will slam his right hand down as he gets up. Make sure to lay into him whe💎n he is on the ground. |
Charging Attack |
This attack sees the massive prince get on 🍎all fours and charge forward, crashing into anything in his path. |
When you see him crouching down, prepare to sprint to the side once he starts to move. He can't adjust his direction mid-charge, so he'll sail right past you. |
Pouncing Attack |
The pri🎉nce will raise his hands up above his head and nearly instantaneously lunge toward you. |
This attack is super fast once it is in motion, so you need to time it based on the animation that comes before it. He will raise his hands up above his head. Once his palms are showing, and his hands are above his noggin, get ready to dodge. |
How To Beat The First Prince Of The Flowing Sands
So, let's put all the above information together for you. Your strategy for beating the First Prince is pretty simple: You're going to want to bait out his lunging attacks, and then pile on the damage when he is vulnerable. Once you have done that, stick close to him, and try to circle around to his backside. Now the only attack you'll have to worry about is his tail swipe. Every time he gains a little distance, close it.
As you are laying the smackdown on his butt, he will likely turn to face you mid-combo. Once he is facing you, he'll either try to crush you with a palm slam or smack you with a backhand. However, both of these attacks have notable tells, look❀ for them, dodge thro🍰ugh them, and then get behind him again.
As you are doing this, you are going to be freezing him in place with your spells, and using your heavy poll attack whenever your foc🧸us meter is filled. Don't let up, keep on him, and he will crumble.
He will sometimes perform a lun𒅌ging attack when you are b✨ehind him. This will leave him out of range but temporarily locked in place. This is a great time to slam him with a far-reaching heavy attack.
DON'T try to immobilize and stagger him when he is preparing to perform one of his big attacks. You won't be able to stagger him, you'll just eat the attack once he unfreezes. He is very hard to stagg♈er in general, and I was never able to knock him out of one of his big attacks. Additionally, standing on top of your pole isn't going to help you avoid much. Don't get cute and try it. Just circle him and get to his back!
