How To Beat Odón Of The Confraternity Of Salt
As mentioned above, Odón of the Confraternity of Salt has only one phase but a laundry list of moves within it, forcing you to learn how to adapt and counter his onslaught. While he will enhance some of his actions, it's not enough to consider it an additional phase, as the rest of his kit remains the same.
In this one phase, you will constantly be tasked with learning how to dodge his incoming attacks, focus his minions, and when to get your own hits in. You can learn his staggering 11 actions in the sections below and how to deal with🅠🎉 them properly!
Plunging Spear
The first attack Odón will likely throw out every time is his Plunging Spear, having him leap high into the air until he disappears off-screen before slamming into the ground with his lance with tremendous force, creating high waves of water on both sides of him.
To avoid taking damage here, wait for him to disappear from the screen, then Evade to the right or left just before he lands, then Double Jump over the waves. When you land, you should be able to get a few hits on him, so take this moment to chip away at his health!
Backspin Slash
Next up in his arsenal is the Backspin Slash, having him plant his legs before swiftly pivoting his upper body toward you while delivering a devastating water-infused slash. This attack is rare but very damaging, so always look for it whenever you're behind him.
Whenever you see him halt his movement and raise his lance upward, Double Jump and Air Dash in front of him to evade the slash and get several hits on him before he moves onto another action.
Summoning Minions
Throughout the entirety of this encounter, Odón will call forth Spear Minions, starting with a pair of them. Killing both Spear Minions will have him call in another wave, so we recommend leaving one alive in the early goings to avoid having to deal with two of them.
These are the same Spear Minions you've encountered on your way to this boss encounter, so it isn't something you haven't dealt with, but dealing with them and Odón simultaneously can get hairy quickly. Still, they are largely ineffective during the beginning of this fight!
Ground Spears
Following that is his Ground Spears, having Odón raise his lance high into the air before summoning an army of Spear Minions' arms from the ground, creating a sea of spears to the left and right of him.
To evade this attack, Double Jump whenever you see Odón raise his lance into the air, then Air Dash toward the corner closest to you. In the early stages of this fight, they won't move, allowing you to dod💝ge them by simply heading to tꦗhe far end of the arena!
Standard Stab
Another rare attack of Odón's is his Standard Stab, which is precisely what it sounds like, having him take a step forward before thrusting his lance forward, dealing a decent amount of damage to⛦🃏 you on contact.
For this attack, you will see him lower his lance and take a sizable step forward before swiftly delivering a forceful stab, giving you more than enough time to Double Jump and Air Dash over him, placing you behind him to land a few hits on him yourself!
Charged Slash
This next attack is a bit more common but not utilized nearly as much as some of his other actions. Still, his Charged Slash is a very high damaging attack that has Odón drag his lance across the ground before delivering a devastating thrusting attack imbued with water.
The moment you see him begin dragging his lance across the ground, perform a Double Jump, then Dash over him, allowing you to go on the offensive for a brief period until he recovers!
Wave Projectile
Next is his Wave Projectile attack, having him launch a sizable wave of water toward you that travels nearly 3/4 of the stage's length before evaporating. This action is well telegraphed by having Odón halt his movement and fling his lance off the ground forward to create the wave.
Like most of the other attacks, Double Jumping and Air Dashing over the Wave Projectile will have you avoid taking damage entirely and will place you in front of Odón, allowing you to land a few strikes on him!
Enhanced Waves
After knocking Odón's health down halfway, his Wave Projectile attack will become enhanced, having him launch two Waves, one to his right and the other to the left. This is telegraphed by having Odón turning his back to the screen, showing his red cape.
Dodging these Wave Projectiles is handled the same exact way as last time. You just have to be more aware of your surroundings, as he can launch them much faster than before!
Enhanced Ground Spears
Another attack of Odón's that becomes enhanced the more the encounter drags on is his Ground Spears. When knocking him down to half health, he will summon two waves of Ground Spears toward you, forcing you to appropriately time your Jumps and Air Dashes to avoid them both.
After getting his health down 3/4th of the way, he will launch three waves of Ground Spears at you, making the window much tighter to dodge them, but Jumping and performing an Air Dash will allow you to evade them altogether!
Enhanced Summoning Minions
Remaining on the topic of enhanced attacks, we have the Summoning Minions action, having Odón call forth more and more Spear Minions throughout the course of the encounter.
Dropping him down to half health will have him call in three Spear Minions instead of two, and getting his health down to roughly 3/4th will have him summon four in. Once you get into this stage of the encounter, we suggest dispatching all of them as soon as possible, as it takes a bit of time for him to call the next wave in.
You can also try keeping one alive here as well, but it will become far too chaotic, and your focus will be all over the place, so we strongly advise just eliminating all of them whenever they appear!
Rallying Call
Lastly, Odón will gain one new action after you get his health down 3/4th of the way, this being his Rallying Call, having him raise a large flag made of water high into the air. While this action may not seem like it does much, you should focus on hitting him when you see him raise it.
Odón's Rallying Call will have him place Shields around the Spear Minions summoned into the arena, allowing them to take a beating before they die. Fortunately, if you hit him as soon as you see him raise the water flag, you will interrupt the action and prevent this from happening.
If Odón gets this action off, however, your work will be cut out for you, as you will have to deal substantial amounts of damage to the Spear Minions to dispose of them. If Odón's health is low here, we suggest just going for the kill if you can manage it!
