Do you miss the good ol’ days of the PS1? Blocky graphics? Stylish fog used to hide terrible render distances? No analogue stick? That last one is more annoying than nostalgic, but you get the picture. 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Bloodborne PSX is a PS1 demake of the PS4 modern-classic, and it’s in this week’s 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Indie Spotlight.

Made by , this gritty, CRT-looking game isn’t just a fancy texture pack - it’s a complete ground-up demake of the original. You c♑an download it and play for yourself if you dare, but be warned, even seasoned Bloodborne veterans will find themselves lost and dying a lot in this new old version.

This demake makes complete thematic sense, as FromSoftware actually has a long history with PlayStation, cutting their teeth on the King’s Field series for the PS1. Yep, despite what many may think, the company existed before Demoꦑn’s Souls.

The opening cutscenes and character creator look incredible. The art style trꦉuly invokes old horror games like Resident Evil and Silent Hill. It suits the gothic tone of Bloodborne perfectly. The downside is a lot of the stunning vistas Bloodborne is known for have to be obscured, but it makes them all the more exciting when you get to a ledge and are able to pﷺeek at the towering cathedrals and bridges in Yharnam.

The game is entirely playable with just a keyboard, no mouse use at all. It takes a few💖 minutes to get used to the new layout and the strange inability to look up, but it works. After all, games from this era often had strange control schemes and lots of random limitations. I woke up in Iosefka’s Clinic, tangled with the werewolf, and promptly got my guts ripped out. I’ve lost my touch.

The blood curdling scream let out when you die is also fantastically demade, as ar🗹e all the other sounds in the game. As I said before, this is so much more than a texture pack. Every part of the game fits, from the sounds and music to the UI, to th𝔍e gameplay itself.

It’s low on weapons and attacks - at least compared to its PS4 counterpart - initially offering just the Saw Cleaver or Threaded Cane without their transformed variants, but this helps to keep the controls smoot🤪h and easy to use. It streamlines the experience and allows you to focus on exploring this new vision of the Nightmare rather than trying to min-max a build and perfectly utilise transformation attacks to build up your beasthood. That kind of complexity isn’t what PS1 games were about.

I wanted to quickly get to Cleric Beast and finish it off before writing this, just so I could get a good feel for the boss fights, but I can’t find the damn thing. The areas in Yharnam have been changed just ever so slightly enough to look familiar but still be misleading. I think so, anyway. I know for sure that a new area has been added to the Clinic, but beyond that, the effect is so uncanny and subtle that I’m not actually 100 percent sure if things have changed or I just don’t remember the game as well ꦕas I thought. There are also different minibosses in some places, meaning anything you think you’re prepared for, you probably aren’t.

Something that adds to this phenomenon is the new loa♛ding screens. Instead of one continuous world - unheard of in the PS1 days - Bloodborne PSX splits Yharnham into small chunks that require you to wait through a loading screen. This probably helps to ensure the game can run on almost any machine - my laptop strﷺuggles with almost all 3D games but it runs this brilliantly.

Bloodborne PSX is dedicated to providing an old experience of a relatively new game, and from what I’ve played so far, it succeeds. It’s a labour of love and passion that I didn’t know I needed until I saw the first images and clips of it. Many seem to agree, as it surpassed over 100,ꦏ000 downloads less than 24 hours after launch. You can 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:speedrun it, there’s a secret ending, 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:and there are fun cheats. I’d highly recommend this to anyone who likes FromSoftware games, even if you’ve not p🌸layed the original Bloodborne before. It’s similar enough to make you want to play the OG, but different enough to 𝄹give veteran players a lot of surprises. And considering it’s completely free, it’s well worth your time.
