Bloodborne's Victorian-era Gothic city of  Yharnam is one of the most memorable settings in any action title. What truly sells the setting are the strange NPCs that inhabit the world. Whether they're retired hunters or beasts disguised as men, Bloodborne's world-building is top-notch. Here are ten weird NPCs in Bloodborne and their associated quests.

10 ♛ Retired Hunter Djura

Bloodborne Djura with a gatling gun.

Compared to most Bloodborne characters, Djura seems rather tam🐟e on the surface. This character is friendly to any pla🅰yer that spares .

It turns out that beasts used to be people. What makes Djura so odd is that he is the only hunter in Bloodborne that sympathizes with the beasts and wishes them no harm. This is shown🅷 rather well in his short questline.

Players will need to visit the Darkbeast Paarl and gain Insight for entering the boss arena. Fr﷽om there, head through the back of Old Yharnam as to prevent Djura from seeing the player wield a gun. Talk to Djura and state that the beasts of Old Yharnam will be left unharmed to finish the questline on friendly terms. Otherwise, prepare for a tough fight.

9 Gilbert

Bloodborne Gilbert's House

Gilbert can be found near Central Yharnam behind the first Lamp of the zone. Speaking with Gilbert after killing Fathe👍r Gascoigne will gift the player a Flamesprayer. He will also turn into a beast when the moon turns red after ki𝓀lling Rom.

What makes Gilbert so strange is his possession of a Flamesprayer and his ill state. Flamesprayers were used to burn down Old Yharnam by the old Healing Church hunters. It would make sense that Gilbert was one of the . His illness could also be explained by the Ashen Blood disea﷽se thaꦛt plagued Yharnam long ago.

The "Skeptical Man" is a unique NPC that can be 🧸found after players escort Arianna to safety. This character is strange in that he says the opposite of what he means in every line of dialogue.

RELATED:

His quest carries this strange behavior, wherein he will ask players to "give their best lie." Players will need to give him a location to stay as with any ꦡother survivor, only this time the Skeptical Man will go to the opposite destination. Once he is safe, the Skeptical Man will provide comments about other members of the Oedon Chapel. Don't take what he says at face value, though, as these comments are also the polar opposite of what he truly feels.

7 Alfred

Bloodborne Alfred NPC

Found in the Cathedral Ward, Alfred is a character that is obsessed ꦇwith living up to his master's legacy. Alfred's master was determined to destroy , so Alfred wish🅠es to follow in his footsteps.

Players assist Alfred in his goal by providing him with a summons le๊tter that grants Alfred passage to the Vileblood queen's throne room. Return to the room to find the queen's corpse torn asunder. Alfred soon kills himself to be remembered as a "true martyr." His combination of Executioner Armor and hunter combat tact𒆙ics is most strange, suggesting that either Alfred used to be a hunter or Executioners were once hunters themselves.

6 Iosefka

Bloodborne Iosefka

Iosefka herself is one of Bloodborne's nicer NPCs. S🎃he is a compassionate character that can be met behind a set of double doors past the "1st Floor Sickroom" Lantern.

However, what makes Iosefka strange is her quest. There is an imposter Iosefka that will ask the player to escort NPCs to her clinic. These NPCs will be tꦡransformed into Celestial Mobs that Isoefka will want players to kill. Of course, players eventually discover that this Iosefka is an imposter by fin﷽ding a Celestial Mob that drops her blood vial, which implies that the real Iosefka was transformed.

Should players let the imposter live, they can visit her during the Blood Moon at the top of the clinic to see her on her knees. She alludes to a sudden pregnancy that is causing her severe pain. Killing Iosefka will provide the One Third of Umbilical Cord item🍌, one of three items needed to fight .

5 Suspicious Be๊ggar

Bloodborne's Suspicious Beggar

During a player's passage through the Forbidden Woods, they might come across the Suspicious Beggar after crossing a set of🧔 gears inside a building. On the balcony of the building is this strange NPC that seeks refuge in a safe haven.

If players take the Suspicious Beggar to the Oedon Chapel, they might notice NPCs will begin to disappear. Talking to the Beggar about this will g♌rant players Beast Blood Pellets, which should immediately ring alarm bells in the player's head. It turns out the Suspicious Beggar is a sentient beast disguised as a human. At this point, players can either let him kill every NPC in the chapel or kill him. Killing him will trigger dialogue chastising the player , something that becomes even more unsettling when players learn that beasts were once people🍸.

4 Patches The Spide🐠r

Bloodborne Patches the Spider

Patches is back in Bloodborne. As in every other Souls game, he is meant to t🐭roll the player ♋and put them in bad situations. In this case, players can meet him in the Frontier of Yharnam after killing Vicar Amelia. He will tell players to go right of the Cathedral Ward for some treasure. Of course, it's a trap. He also sets traps in and blocks a passage in the Lecture Building.

3 🌼 Lonely Old Woman

Bloodborne Lonely Old Woman

On the surface, the Lonely Old Woman in is nothingꦆ more than her name suggests. She can be found past a pack of dogs near the sewer entrance. Talking to her will show her disdain for outsiders, although she will be willing to migrate to Oedon Chapel.

RELATED:

Speaking with𓃲 her will grant players Sedative, a consumable item that clears the frenzy status effect. Its description heavily implies it is made out of thick human blood. This is further confirmed by killing her, where she will state that "It is your father's blood." Since she is near a grave when players first meet her, it is highly implied this old woman is harvesting blood from corpses to make Sedative to calm herself. Perhaps the corpse is her dead husband?

2 Saint Adeli🌞ne ෴

Bloodborne Saint Adeline

Introduced in The Old Hunters DLC for Bloodborne, Saint Adeline is a c🍎haracter that was experimented on by the Healing Church. She requires Brain Fluid from nearby meat lumps to continue her quest. Once she has received two samples, she must be killed to obtain a final sample.

That doesn't end the quest, surprisingly. She will regenerate as her normal self, requiring the player to give Adeline her 𒊎own Brain Fluid. Doing so will cause her t෴o gain a revelation, killing her and granting the player the Milkweed rune.

1 Arianna

Bloodborne Arianna NPC

Found in the Catไhedral Ward, Arianna is one of the game's survivor NPCs that can be escorted either to Iosefka's Clinic or the Oedon Chapel. Bringing her to the clinic results in the quest ending, but bringing he🉐r to the chapel quickly turns into one of the game's strangest quests.

Arianna will give players her blo🧔od as thanks for saving her. Obtaining three blood samples from her will cause Adella the Nun to murder her. If players can prevent that from occurring, Arianna will eventually move to an aqueduct to deliver a mutated baby. Killing the child will send Arianna into shock but give players the🍃 One Third of Umbilical Cord item, three of which are needed to fight the true final boss.

Strangest of all, killing either Arianna or her newborn will give players her shoes as an equippable leg armor piece. The significance of her sho♉es is unknown.
