Borderlands 3 might 🅰not have as many DLC characters as previous entries, according to a new report.

The original Borderlands never quite gained enough popularity to warrant DLC characters (or maybe it was just technically impossible on the era’s more limited consoles), but Borderlands 2 introduce🀅d the franchise to its first pair of downloadable expansion chara♓cters in Gaige the Mechromancer and Krieg the Psycho.

Gaige was billed as the ultimate casual character class wit🤡h skills that made her powerful even if t💜he person playing her was awful at shooter games. Krieg, meanwhile, became an instant fan favorite for having absolutely hilarious voice lines like “bloody sand, GIVE ME BACK MY SKULL," and "melt for me, pastycakes!"

He also just tended to scream a lot and that sort of appealed to Borderlands fans.

However, a new report from says that DLC characters might not be in the cards for Borderlands 3. In an interview with Gearbox CEO Randy Pitchford, analysis of the previous games revealed “that the best approach is to offer more options with existing characters r♍ather than new DLC characters."

We’re not sure h🍌ow that conclusion was come to as none of the previous entries🌠 ever modified a character’s skills after the fact.

While it’s true that you can certainly get a lot of replayability out of an expansive skill tree, adding new characters adds even more than just a new way to play the game. It adds a totally new experience. A new character means a new voice to hear and new interactions with NPCs. A new character means totally different in the same way that Gaige and Krieg were 100% different from every other character in Borderlands 2.

Borderlands 3 is still not out yet and it’s going to be a long time before Gearbox even thinks about producing DLC, but we think it’d be a shame to rob the franchise of even more iconic characters that are only possible with new character DLC. Hopefully enough Borderlands fans chime in to get this changed by the time Borderlands 3 hits stores this September.
