Borderlands 3 hasn't even been out for a full month yet, and there's already high quality merch going around. Chronicle Collectibles announced a 14.5' inch statue of Tyreen Calypso, one of the livestreaming twin villains of Borderlands 3. The highly-detailed piece will be a treat wit🐈h fans on her own, but she also comes ဣwith extra good news: she's the first in an upcoming line of statues.
Chronicle Collectibles has been making statues and props based on pop culture for some time now. Its most recent piece was a San Diego Comic Con line based on Jurassic Park. 🗹There, Chronicle ran a booth selling a replica of Dennis Nedry's fake shaving cream can complete with stolen 🐓dinosaur embryos. The Tyreen statue is a bit more conventional than that, but it also marks Chronicle's shift into the gaming market.
Chronicle Collectibles describes Tyreen here as "standing tall and cocky amidst a scattering of scrap metal, with her gun at the ready and her cloak billowing in the smoke-filled breeze." It also notes that they had artists paint her to match the unique visual style of Borderlands, and hits that she's just the first in a whole line of upcoming Borderlands merchandise.
Tyreen Calypso has proven to be one of the more interesting characters introduced via Borderlands 3. Her core concept is quite clever– she's a Siren who charms people via livestream. The more modern take on a mythological being is very Borderlands, and many fans enjoy her send-up of influencer culture. Others find her obnoxious, too close to the very livestreamers she's meant to parod﷽y.
Really, this split in interpretation is present in Borderlands 3 as a whole. Many press outlets after launch, citing a general boredom. It hasn't changed much since Borderlands 2, so how could feel motivated to discuss it? On the other hand, Borderlands fans are all-in. More of the same is all they wanted, ꩲand the game's many, many guns is reason enough to keep playing. If you are one of these fans, then good news! You now have the option to get a nice Tyreen Calypso statue to sit on your desk and stare at you smugly.
