The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild has all kinds of quests, from the short and simple to the complex and multifaceted. 'From the Ground Up' surely belongs to the latter category, and any description of its storyline will tell you all you need to know on that front. Link is, after all, assisting in the construction of a brand-new village.

But there's more to this quest than just building and settling Tarrey Town - which is plenty on its own, to be sure. There's marriage! Happiness! And unlimited Hylian Shields! Let us be your guide, as we chart your course through 'From the Ground Up'... from the ground up.

Hylian Homeowner

'From the Ground Up' has a fairly important prerequisite in 'Hylian Homeowner', a quest that can be found in Hateno Village. While you're in town, be sure to check its outskirts, where you'll find a trio of boisterous fellows demolishing an abandoned house. Speak directly Bolson, the leader of the group, and you'll be given the option to tell him you wish to purchase the place rather than see it destroyed.

Bolson is not only surprised, but downright doubtful to boot. He'll lower his asking price to 3,000 Rupees and 30 bundles of wood after a bit more chatter, and it's up to you to come up with all that.

For the wood, go outside town and start chopping down trees - easy-peasy. For the Rupees, well, that's a bit of a taller order, but we've got a guide to help you out if needed.

Insist you're serious about this transaction when Bolson again rebuffs, and the house is yours. Congratulations - your first step toward the construction of a faraway settlement begins with some nifty property ownership right here in Hateno Village.

Notably, Bolson will now tell you Hudson's got some work ahead of him in the Akkala region. And so Hudson is off. Let's follow his lead.

Helping Hudson

Hudson invited Link to visit, so let's take him up on that offer immediately. We're headed for Lake Akkala, specifically a can't-miss-it area not unlike an island above the water connected by a somewhat thin length of rock.

If you're having trouble spotting it, and you're unable to view the image above, just know that it's that big, unmistakable circle of land at the center of Lake Akkala, to the east of the Torin Wetland.

Cross the natural rock bridge to the 'island' and you'll find Hudson toiling away. Chat him up to learn the poor guy's decided to build an entire village. Say you'll help out, of course, and Hudson will request ten bundles of wood.

Bring it to him, and we'll begin the quartet of strangely specific recruitment requests.

To assist in all this boulder-crushing, Hudson could really use some hearty help from a Goron. Only, the Goron's name has to end in '-son', due to 'company policy', which is going to become a recurring issue throughout 'From the Ground Up', so get used to it now!

The following recruitments will require Link to travel across Hyrule, potentially to places you've yet to discover when you initiate this quest. If that's the case, no worries. Just take the game at your pace, and you'll find these fine folks in due time.

Where's Greyson?

Greyson, the one Goron in Hyrule whose name befits Hudson's requirement for employment, can be found at the Southern Mine out at Eldin Canyon. Simply speak with him to convince him to make the trek, alongside his brothꦍer Pellison.

Hey, two for the price of one. Pelison will eventually open a shop called 'Ore and More' for us.

Where's Rhondson?

Gerudo Tailor in Tarrey Town

Upon delivery of Goron, Hudson will ask for 20 bundles of wood. Get them for him, and he'll realize his clothing's torn, and he needs a tailor. A Gerudo will do nicely, he supposes, which takes us to the Kara Kara Bazaar, a Gerudo settlement located on the road to the larger (and women-only) Gerudo Town.

Again, if you haven't been there yet, no need to rush. You'll get there when you get there, and then you'll get Rhondson.

Rhondson is seated outside the Kara Kara Bazaar Inn, bummed that there isn't much use for a woman of her calling around here. Also, she can't land a husband. More on that later. For now, speak with her some more to compel her to head to Tarrey Town at once.

Head there yourself afterward, where you may find she's already opened the 'Rhondson Armor Boutique' shop. (If not, she will soon.)

Where's Fyson?

Breath of the Wild Fyson

Hudson asks for 30 bundles of wood. You know the drill. Get the man his wood and he'll ask Link to find him a traveling trader to open a General Store. A Rito would be best.

Make your way for Rito Village, or progress the game until you've found it. Either way, you'll find Fyson fussing over his fussy mum, who wants him to take over a local store when all he truly wants is to make a store of his own. A General Store. Huh, great. Tell him about Tarrey Town, and he's off to join the growing crowd. Tell Hudson, and...

Where's Kapson?

Zora priest in From the Ground Up side-quest

Let's cap it off with Kapson, a Zora. But first, 50 bundles of wood. Don't worry, this is the last time we'll be chopping trees for good ol' Hudsy. Speaking of 'Hudson' and 'good', he tells Link he's now engaged to Rhondson.

That's why we'll need Kapson, an elderly Zora back at Zora's Domain who just so happens to want to marry a couple. Any couple. We've got a Hudson/Rhondson couple who needs you, Kapson! Let him know.

Finishing The Quest

Travel to Tarrey Town again, which by this point has fully sprung to life. What a lovely place we've assembled! And now there will soon be a wedding. Hudson's at the clothing shop now, most likely, so find him there.

Hudson would like you to go get his boss and buddy, Bolson and Karson, from back in Hateno Village. Back to where it all began, then! Let them know about the wedding, and they'll be off soon enough.

Return to Tarrey Town, and enjoy the wedding sequence at your leisure - you can initiate it whenever you'd like.

Your rewards are many for finishing 'From the Ground Up'. Three diamonds is nothing to scoff at, but the storytelling about these newfound residents of newly-founded Tarrey Town is surely entertaining in its own right. Furthermore, you'll have access to several new shops, including one that will reforge your Hylian Shield if it's ever broken.

Mind you, you won't find the Hylian Shield until you've gone through part of Hyrule Castle, so that may be a long time coming for you. Even so, it's a lovely place you've helped craft here, and there's plenty else to purchase. Well done!
