Summary
- Kevin Edwards has shared our first look at the cancelled 2003 Iron Man game.
- Developed by GenePool, this game was supposed to be a movie tie-in, though it's unclear for what movie.
- Marvel didn't reacquire the rights to Iron Man until 2005, a year after GenePool shut down, so it might have been based on the cancelled New Line Cinema movie.
Kevin Edwards, who worked on the underrated movie tie-in game 'X-Men 2: Wolverine's Revenge', has revealed that developer GenePool Software was working on a game called 'The Invincible Iron Man' prior to the studio's shutdown in 2004.
The Invincible Iron Man was supposed to lau🤪nch in 2003, likewise as a movie tie-in, but publisher Activision cancelled the project without explanation (although, Activision did have another Iron Man game in development at the same time, so it may have simply spread itself too thi💯n).
Marvel reacquired the rights in 2005, which led to 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:the iconic 2008 Iron Man movie that birthed the MCU.
Whatever movie it was, Edwards says that it was "delayed" which may have contributed to the game being cancelled. There was an Iron Man animated film in 2007 of the same name, but it's possible that this game was actually supposed to compliment New Line Cinema's mid-00s Iron Man movie that was also cancelled after studio head Bob Shaye argued that "Iron Man was too heavy to fly" (as reported by ).
Edwards shared a picture of the cover art on Twitter, as well as a few gameplay stills where ꧒we see Iron Man fighting in a desert canyon against some nondescript robots. His armour looks like it was ripped straight from the pages of the original Ultimate comics, which makes sense given how influential and popular the alternate universe was, even helping to f๊orm the foundations of the MCU.
Kevin Edwards Got A Demo Of The Invincible Iron Man Working On An Xbox Emulator
While we've seen concept art of this game before, this is our first look at it in action. Edwards managed to get an old demo working on an Xbox emulator, so on top of screenshots, there's gameplay footage to boot. You can see a small snippet embedded below.
The clip even explains why Iron Man is out in the desert; "Intelligence reports that a major droid manufacturing plant is located in the immediate vicinity... Locate the entrance to the facility and eliminate enemy threat. The canyo⭕n represents the only access route below enemy♏ radar. Though some resistance is expected, any attempt to fly above the canyon walls will further compromise the mission."
As reported🍰 by , the game was suppos🌼ed to feature Black Widow and Ghost.
Edwards promises to share more footage when he gets better at the controls, so this isn't the last that we've seen of GenePool's ill-fated Iron Man game.
The biggest name in superheroes and comic books, Marvel Entertainment has been owned by The Walt Disney Company since 2009. Its characters include Spider-Man, The Avengers, and the X-Men, while many of the movies that maꦿke up the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) are among the highest-grossing films in history.
