I swear video games are hornier than ever nowadays. I’m not just talking about adult visual novels and porn games you can find on the filthier outskirts, but major titles in the mainstream that aren’t afraid to lean into their lewder side. Publishers a﷽nd franchises are keenly aware that sex sells, and not just in its most explicit form, but in more subtle modes of expression that can becomꦬe a part of our wider culture. I’ve always been of the opinion that sex and a positive outlook on it have never been something to be ashamed of. It’s a part of who many of us are as human beings, and brushing it aside as prudish or rude 🍌when it comes up in conversation is rather old-fashioned. We aren’t our parents, boomers who engaged in intercourse merely to procreate and nothing more - we’re cool, hip gamers who grew up with our minds being corrupt𒁃ed by the internet.
If you gꩵrew up online and weren’t exposed to naughty shit at a young age then I have no choice but to applaud you, it reaches a point where such things are impossible to avoid. This meant we as a generation are far more tolerable to the horny stuff, happily embracing our favourite games, films, and TV shows when they happen to be a bit filthy🙈. No longer is sexualisation something that only appeals to heteronormative audiences - although such examples remain far too common - it’s something that all genders and sexualities can engage in with far less ridicule.
This extends to the creators of our media, whether such horniness is intentional or not. Much like Dimitrescu before them, these two characters resulted in an explosion of fanart online with thousands fawning over their charming designs and adorable outfits. This past weekend saw the reveal trailer for Street Fighter 6 drop into our laps, and as editor-in-chief Stacey Henley has already wr𓄧itten, it’s a tinsy bit horny. Filled with sweat, toes, bulges, biceps, and a couple of buff boys ready to duke it out - sign my bisexual ass up. While the trailer doesn’t give much about the game away at all, its graphical prowess is enough to convince us that characters in the game will be larger than life in every conceivable way, and that will seemingly include Ryu’s package. It’s also refreshing to see two men depicted with such gratuitous attention to detail, it doesn't matter whether we’re eyeing up Ryu’s wiggling toes, rippling muscles, or massive… arms, boys are clearly all the rage.
Chun-Li and Cammy will inevitably get their time in the sweaty spotlight, but such a change in trajectory for a medium that has h🍨istorically been all about ogling women shifting its focus onto the opposite sex for the reveal of such a blockbuster feels like a positive sign of things to come. Capcom must be aware of how horny it appears on the surface now, and if it isn’t, imagine how things will become once it is. Maybe the dinosaurs in Dino Crisis 4 will be super sexy? Who knows, but I’ll be along for the ride no matter what.
