has suggested that it's going to take its time for the next game, noting in a recent investor's call that it's taking "care" when considering a new game.

Not counting HD re-releases and mobile projects like Mega Man Battle Network Legacy Collection and Mega Man X Dive Offline, it's been some time since we've had a brand-new Mega Man game. The last mainline entry in the series was Mega Man 11 in 2018 and before that, it was Mega Man 10 in 2010.

It seems that we're still going to be waiting a while for the next big Mega Man release, however. , Capcom was recently asked about the future of the series during an investor's call that took place yesterday. During that call, one investor asked about the future of Mega Man at Capcom considering the great sales of the Battle Network Legacy Collection, which released in April and sold over a million copies.

Mega Man poses with different boss characters from the games

In response, Capcom said, "Including Mega Man 11, the latest entry in the franchise, Mega Man is one of Capcom's historic IPs and is loved by fans, and as such we want to take care in how we develop the series. We are considering how to approach the production of new entries in the series, which requires numerous factors, including the development of a solid concept, ideas and gameplay, etc."

This seems to suggest that Capcom is well aware of how long it's been since the last Mega Man game and isn't looking to change that anytime soon. In fact, it seems like work on Mega Man 12 has yet to even begin properly, as the wording here implies that the team hasn't decided on a main gameplay gimmick or hook to set the twelfth entry apart from other games in the series. That, or it could just not be ready to comment on the game's development and wants to leave it as a surprise when it does get announced.

Although that might seem like sad news for Mega Man fans, considering how much of a roll Capcom has been on over the past few years, it's for the best that we just let them cook and get a great new game out of it. Thankfully, it seems like we might be getting more ports and HD re-releases before a new game, as Capcom also noted that it was "considering our approach to ports of past entries titles, which includes addressing technical issues", which is also what it said about Resident Evil.
