The launch is finally upon us, and Activision brought it in with a bang. The publisher of the massive FPS franchise teamed up with GameStop for a series of events. The biggest of these was a takeover of the West Hollywood GameStop store. The store was redecorated into MWStop, complete with military gear and employees dressed in camo. MWStop also hosted a special livestream interview with Infinity Ward developers. They talked about why now was the time to return to Modern Warfare, what they thought fans wan♛ted to see in this new version, and what Captain Price shares with a certain Darﷺk Knight.
Putting The 'Modern' In Modern Warfare
The stream was hosted by games journalist Geoff Keighley, who started by asking "Why is now the time to return to Modern Warfare?"
The game's Narrative Director, Taylor Kurosaki, said quite simply that Infinity Ward felt the time was right. They believe that now feels like such a different time than twelve years ago, when the first Modern Warfare released. The Modern Warfare brand is supposed to feel ripped from the headlines, and so much has changed they felt they could make♔ something new.
Not too new, however. When Keighley asked what Infinity Warไd felt fans wanted, one answer was "pure nostalgia." Even with the bigger multiplayer, new story, and near-endless gun customization, the developers wanted players to have that same feeling they did when they first geared up in 2007. To achieve that, they knew they had to bring a certain character back.
Why Price Is The Batman Of Call Of Duty
Captain Price made quite an impression on players during the original Modern Warfare. The CoD developers themselves acknowledged the declining interest in story by totally ditching campaign in Black Ops 4. Now that Modern Warfare is bringing back a , however, fans are 𝔉hyped for single-player once again.
Infinity Ward couldn't just copy and paste Price as fans remember him, though. During the interview, they admitted that there was a challenge in making the character fresh and relevant. The 2019 Call of Duty: Modern Warfare takes place in a separate timeline from the 2007 version. The Price we see, therefore, is not the same Price who tried to prevent nuclear war alongside Soap all🅠 those years ago. In that way he's like a comic book hero, a figure who must be reinterpreted to match the new e🔜ra in which his story is now being told.
Captain Price, like the rest of the game, had to both satisfy nostalgia and feel ripped from today's headlines. The only way to properly bring back this defining CoD character was to t🗹reat him with the reverence of Ba🍒tman.
Performing Price
"The actor needed to embody Price, not just voice him," Kurosaki said on the stream. A new actor was chosen to bring new energy to Price, but he also had to represent the classic elements of the character. Because of this, Kurosaki said that casting the role felt like casting a new James Bond or Batman. Like those classic characters, Price's legacy has moved beyond his original appearance. He's now just as much a part of CoD as Mountain Dew partnerships or Prestige-ing (although he apparently 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:outlasted the latter).
Infinity Ward settled on English actor Barry Sloane. Sloane has an extensive filmograph൩y, but it was his history of military productions thꩲat caught the team's attention. They liked that he knew to move like a soldier, which they hoped would give Price a physical presence he didn't have before. For Sloane's part, he said in a that he sees Price as a "protector and guide." For his take on the iconic character, he says he worked to make him "someone you would aspire to be."
Now that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is available on PS4, Xbox💎 One, and PC, players can see for themselves whether this new Captain Price (and his game) live up to the legacy.
