Civilization VI’s latest expansion will include brand new weather effects includin🐈g devastating storms caused by global warming.

Ever wondered what the world would be like if the ancient Aztecs weren’t wiped out by the Spanish expansion? Civilization is the turn-based game franchise that explores such notions, and Civilization VI is the latꦗest 𝓡iteration in a long line of strategy games.

Civ VI’s first expansion, Rise and Fall, dealt with what happens when empires become great and how they can plummet from such heights with just a few wrong moves. The next expansion coming out of Firaxis will bring Civilization to the 21st 𝓰century and address such pressing world issues as cli♚mate change.

Called Gathering Storm, the largest addition to the game is a full weather system that can cause blizzards, sandstor♒ms, tornadoes, and even hurricanes. At the start, these destructive events will be completely random, but as you reach into the late-game and both you and neighboring civilizations start burning coal and oil for power, world CO2 levels will start to rise and lead to a changing climate that will be disrup😼tive to everyone’s plans.

On the plus side, some additional research will unlock zero-emission power generation in t𝓰he form of solar, wind, and geothermal power plants.

Convincing your neighbors to give up their coal-fired plants will be trick, but that’s where the new diplomacy options come 🅷in. A diplomatic resource called Favor allows players to influence other nation’s decisions--for better or for worse. These new diplomacy options will allow players to form a World Congress (basically like the modern-day United Nations), and if you get elected to be world leader often enough you can win the game by a new Diplomatic Victory win condition.

Where most expansions would be fine to stop there, Firaxis goes way further. Gathering Storm will include 9 new leaders, 8 new civilizations, 2 new scenarios, 7 new world wonders, 7 natural wonders, 18 new units🎃, 15 new improvements,🌃 9 new buildings, 5 new districts, 2 new city sets, 9 new techs, and 10 new civics.

Gathering Storm launch🍨es on Febr♋uary 14th, 2019, so mark your calendars.
