After battling another of Hojo’s creations on Costa del Sol’s beach, Yuffie ambushes the party just as they’re leaving the hotel, planning to convince them to allow her to join the group. She drops from above in a cloud of smoke, dramatically telling the tale of how she’s both a materia hunter and an assassin, as well as “Wutai’s white rose”. It’s a visually beautiful depiction of her abilities as a ninja, and shows off🔯 her lively personality.

(‘Come on, Cloud! Just let her hang out with you for a bit!’ is what I found myself thinking during this scene.)

With the majority of the party, (bar Barret and Red XIII), being around the same age, it’s refreshing to see such a diff♔erent dynamic. Cloud even gets to be a little goofy around her — he seems to enjoy playing along with the too-cool-for-you older brother shtick, after all.

Later on, when you explore the mines in Corel, you have the choice to change the mine cart track to either 🀅Barret’s or Yuffie’s preference. I decided to side with Barret, which, g💧iven Yuffie’s reaction and her interactions with Cloud so far, seemed perfectly fitting.

The mine cart ri🔥de is much more 💮action-packed as a result, with the cart soaring across a gap in the tracks as Yuffie screams, “I hate you, Cloud!” Though you can’t see Cloud as this happens, it’s easy to imagine him fighting back a laugh. It’s the sort of safe-but-funny mischief that siblings get up to all the time.

On their Gold Saucer ‘date’, Cloud is happy to sit back as Yuffie gets excited about the fireworks and spinning their carriage, but once she calms down, she doesn’t pass up the opportunity to tease Cloud about Tifa&rs⛎quo;s crush on him. The best part, though, is at the end of their date, when Yuffie throws some mock energy blasts at him, and Cl𝓀oud pretends to be hit by them, fully committing to it after the first few.

Cloud gives her some advice about her feelings, too, despite having proclaimed that feelings aren’t his thing just a moment before. These interactions show a side to Cloud that we rarely get to witness when he’s busy fighting Shinra and dealing with his own issues.
