EA is bringing a 4K remaster to Command & Conquer and Red Alert with the help of former Westwood Studios develop♑ers.

If there’s one thing we can all agree on, it’s that remasters are sweet. Rather than having to go through all the rigamarole of trying to find your old CDs, an optical drive to read them, and then try to get a 23-year-old game to work on modern hardware and software, you can just wait for the big studi♍os to make a remaster that does all th🎃at heavy lifting for you.

Blizzard has already come out with Starcraft Remastered and has announced a remaster for Warcraft 3. Now it’s EA’s turn with the recent announcement of a remastered version of both Command & Conquer: Tiberian Dawn and Command & Conquer: Red Alert.

The announcement comes straight from EA creative director Jim Vessella, who posted a personal message on EA’s as well as the Command & Conquer . Both remasters will include all expansi🅰ons for both games (of which there are many) and will have absolutely zero microtransactions.

It’s kind of funny that EA has to specify when a game will have zero microtransactions nowadays, but we live in stra๊nge times.

To make these remasters a reality, EA is partnering with Petroglyph Games, an indie studio that was formed from the re🎃mnants of Westwood Studios when EA closed them down way back in 2003. As such, Petroglyph is full of former We🌞stwood employees, plus a whole bunch of other industry veterans that have worked on all sorts of strategy games.

Again, it’s weird that EA fires a bunch of people, then goes to the new indie studio fi💎lled with those fired people to make a remaster of their game. Strange fre💃akin’ times.

EA will also partner with Lemon Sky Studios, a developer that’s helped bring a bunch of modern titles into 4K glory such as Gears of War 4 and Uncharted: the Lost Legacy. They also worked on Blizzard’s Starcraft Remastered, so they’ve got some RTS chops behind them.

Development hasn’t started yet as EA is still in the planning stag𝓰es and making sure all the players have been invited to the dance. They’re still taking suggestions over on the C&C subreddit, with most people demanding a fix to the janky harvester AI.
