There are many unusual creatures lurking inside the walls of the Oldest House, though one that re-appears several times in Control is the entity known only as Former. This strange mix of a cyclops and a spider first appears after Jesse attempts to cleanse an Altered Item that attacks anyone who looks away from it, though later appears in the Foundation DLC as a main ally to 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:the new Director.

Despite appearing multiple times in the story, Former is quite a mysterious character that seꦚems to have a vested interest in Jesse and her role as the Director, particularly following the even🌳ts of the Foundation DLC that left several questions as to the nature of the Board open to interpretation.

10 It Was A Fo♓rmer Member Of The Board

The Board and the Former

As the name suggests, Former was, at one point, a member of the Board that oversees the Oldest House and the FBC, using the Director as a middle-man for their plans. This is most obvious when Jesse first encounters Former, as she is transport𓃲ed to the Astral Plane and is spoken to in a similar, broken variation of the same language the Board uses to communicate with her. After Jesse's battle with Former, the Board confirms this link by claiming that they are a "dissent" and shouldn't be trusted as they are building up an opposition to their power.

9 It Exists Somewhere In The Ast🍌ral Plane

After attempting to ꧂cleanse the fridge Altered Item, Jesse is transported to the Astral Plane, much like she does when she interacts with an Object of Power for the first time, though this area of the Astral Plain is notably different from where the Board lies. For one, the backdrop of this section is grey rather than white, while the pillars that make up the solid ground Jesse can stand on are a lot more fragile than in the Board's region, as Former can easily destroy them while attacking Jesse. There is also no inverted pyramid anywhere to be seen, which is always in the background in other sections of the Astral Plain and seems to represent the Board in some capacity.

8 𝐆 It Was Blamed By The Board For Something

Later in Control, during the Foundation DLC, Jesse once again comes into contact with Former, this time as an ally 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:against the Hiss and the Board rather than as a boss to battle. While talking with Jesse, Former m♈entions that they were once a part of the Board, but were separated from them after being b✃lamed for something in the past.

What this something was is never expanded 🃏upon, as neither the Board nor Former ever specify what this thing was, but considering the fact that it appears the Board is trying to manipulate the FBC through Jesse, it probably wasn't something good.

7 I𓂃t Ma🦄y Represent The True Form Of The Board

The inverted pyramid in the Astral Plane Control

Throughout Control, the physical form of the Board is never shown in-game and is only represented by the inverted pyramid that also appears on the FBC coat of arms and in the Oceanview Motel doors. Whether or not the Board is compr🙈ised of the same entities is unknown, but the fact that Former was once a part of the Board may indicate that this is their true form, though until the Board are seen in person, this is only a theory.

6 ✃ It Can Seize ✅Altered Items

Man staring at fridge in Control

One of the main tasks that the player must do in Control is to reclaim several Altered Items and Objects of Power from the Hiss, as they have been infected and seized in order to cause as much chaos as possible and open the door to the Astral Plane to infect the Board. While 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Polaris seems to have a similar power, allowing Jesse to bind Objects of Power to herself and cleanse infected Alt♔ered Items, Former is also shown using a similar ability, as it if first encountered after attem✨pting to cleanse the fridge Altered Item, the powers of which seem to be quelled after it is defeated.

5 🤪 It May Be Able To Utilize Altered Items As A Weapon 🐻

Jesse fighting against Former in Control

One of the main differences between Altered Items and Objects of Power, aside from the difference in their volatility, is the ability to bind the object to a person, allowing them to use their powers for themselves. While Jesse isn't able to bind Altered Items to herself, it appears that Former can, as during the fight with them in the Astral Plane, they fi𝔉re off large orbs of ice at Jesse that appear to be somewhat similar to the powers of the fridge she was trying to cleanse. This could also simply be an ability of Former, though considering what else it can do, it may also simply be a much more powerful entity than it lets on.

4 Itꦓs Powers Are Undefi♔ned

Much like the Bo𒐪ard, the Former's powers aren't clearly defined in Contr🌼ol and it seems to be able to do just about anything it wants. Aside from potentially binding Altered Items to itself, it is also capable of existing in the Astral Plane for extended periods of time without any detrimental effects.

During the final battle against a Hiss-infected Helen Marshall, Former was also capable of sending in reinforcements to help Jesse even the odds against the waves of Hiss that accompani🌞ed Marshall, indicating that they may be able to remove Hiss infection or even overwrite it.

3 It Ca🐼n Grant Powers Like The Board

Jesse using the Shape ability in Control

While the Board is capable of granting the Director several powers, as shown in the Foundation DLC, Former seems to have similar abilities despite not being a part of the Board anymore, as they grant Jesse the alternate 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Shape power that the Board w𒈔ithheld from her in the beginning of the DLC. This could also mean that Former is able to test a Director's use of Objects of Power or the right to wield the Service Weapon in the same way as the Board, meaning it may hold greater significance inཧ the future than Control lets on.

2 🐎 It May Have Escaped During The Foundation DLC

Jesse in the Foundation DLC in Control

After the battle against Marshall and the discovery that the Board may have ulter🔜ior motives for wanting to be in control of the FBC, a shadow of Former is seen in the background behind the destroye🌠d Nail, apparently free from the Astral Plane. What this means for the future of the FBC is unknown, but it could mean that the Board may also leave the Astral Plane if they ever discover that Jesse isn't as loyal to their cause as she is letting them believe.

1 💯 It May Become The New Board In The Future

Jesse Faden holding gun to her head

Since Jesse and Former seem to be of the same mindset that the Board shouldn't be trusted, as well as Former displaying several abilities simiᩚᩚᩚᩚᩚᩚ⁤⁤⁤⁤ᩚ⁤⁤⁤⁤ᩚ⁤⁤⁤⁤ᩚ𒀱ᩚᩚᩚlar to that of the Board, this could indicate that, at some point in the future, Former will take over the role of the Board. This could be better in the long run, as the actions of the Board have been questionable in the past, but it could also be a way for Former to simply take control of the FBC for themselves by manipulating Jesse.
