Core Keeper is in early access as of the time this article was published. This guide may be updated as Core Keeper's development process continues.
Updated on July 3, 2022 by Matt Arnold: The Sunken Sea update has added new loot drops in Core Keeper's starting biome. With new weapons at your disposal, it's possible to battle Glurch with safer strategies. We've also updated Glurch's loot table to the most current version.
How To Find Glurch The Abominous Mass
Glurch makes their lair in the first area of the game, surrounded by lesser slimes. Orange slimes don't attack unless provoked, but you should still watch out for them during the battle since it's easy to hit one with a shot intended for Glurch. Red slimes, which have a spiky look, are aggressive and will always attack when you come near. Try to eliminate as many minions as you can before approaching the boss.
You can always tell if you're getting close to Glurch's location because the ground shakes every time they bounce. The more intense the vibrations, the closer you are. If you come upon a chamber with lots of slime on the ground and heavy quakes, chances are you'll see the Abominous Mass very soon.
Glurch is usually content to stay at their spawn point and will only attack if you come within five tiles of them. If you get further than that away from Glurch during the fight, the giant slime will return to their spawn point and swiftly regenerate their lost HP. This means you can easily disengage from a losing battle, but you will lose any progress you've made in the fight.
How To Beat Glurch The Abominous Mass
Glurch attacks like any other slime, leaping toward the player after a brief windup. The difference here, of course, is that the Abominous Mass is enormous and therefore much harder to dodge. This is compounded by the fact that the floor in Glurch's lair is covered in slime. Slimed tiles reduce your movement speed by half, potentially making you a sitting duck for Glurch's attacks. If you can, use a shovel to remove and replace slime tiles in the surrounding area bef🅷ore approඣaching the boss.
Glurch has four thousand hit points. When three-quarters of their health is gone, Glurch will glow red and receive doubled movement speed unti✃l the end of the fight. Expect to take some hi💧ts here, and be ready with food to keep your own HP up.
Any walls or objects that Glurch contacts are destroyed, so it's impossible to hide from the boss behind walls. You also may need to replace extinguished torches so that you don't end up fighting in the dark. If Glurch touches a spot with no floor, it is immediately filled in with dirt - you can't dig a hole and lure the slime into it.
Recommended Gear
At the very minimum, you should only consider fighting Glurch if you have a full set of copper gear - sword, helmet, chestplate, and pants. You'll need the protection as Glurch deals a base of 50 damage with each attack. If you're lucky enough to find any during your travels, a Stoneskin Potion ꩵcan make a world of difference in this fight thanks to the increase🤡d armor it confers.
A movement speed buff is essential for defeating Glurch, so be sure to grow some Bomb Peppers and cook spicy food. Heart Berries increase your max HP when used as an ingredie♚nt, so growing these two plants in large quantities and combining them in your Cooking Pot is the best way to prepare.
Any bombs you find in the Underground can be put to good use against Glurch thanks to the slime's limited movement. After dodging an attack, drop a bomb as Glurch winds up for the next one. The boss should land on the bomb just as it's about to go off - just be sure you're somewhere else.
While you're exploring the Underground, be on the lookout for wooden crates to smash open. There's a decent chance of finding a Wood Bow in one of these, giving you a ranged attack that can allow you to keep your distance from Glurch while pelting them with arrows꧑. This will take longer than using melee attacks, but puts you at a lower risk of getting squished.
If all else fails, you can always focus on other things and come back later. Upgrading to tin gear makes the fight a breeze, and the 🐻game is perfectly content to let you battle bosses at your own pace.
Rewards For Defeating Glurch The Abominous Mass
