Cougar is a manufacturer of high-quality gaming peripherals that might not be familiar to many, at least in the States. Cougar has been around since 2008, starting with cases, PC power supplies, and cooling systems, before moving into mice, keyboards, and headsets in more recent years. After noticing their wide range of really eye-catching products at PAX West this year, we just 🎐had to get our hands on their stuff and try them out.
Cougar may not be as well-known as brands like Razer, Logitech, and Corsair, but after spending a week breaking in a set of their newest mouse, keyboard, and headphones, I can tell you thatꦕ they should be. The Cougar Surpassion ST mouse, Immersa Pro Ti headphones, and Puri TKL keyboard are priced competitively, built solidly, and each offers unique features that really make them stand out from the crowd.
Surpassion ST Mouse: A Perfect Fit
The is a 5-button mouse designed with the FPS player in mind. It has 3 LED backlight zones (the logo ꦇon the palm, around the scroll wheel, and all the way around the base) with 14 color presets, including a truly mesmerizing rainbow preset that I haven't been able to take my eyes off of. You can scroll through the different colors using the top button and match it to your keyboard and headphones. The colors are bright and vibrant, even compared to my Logitech G502.
On the bottom of the mouse is a toggle switch for both your DPI and Polling rate which is a fantastic feature, though I would prefer that the top button could be used to change DPI, as I often forget to change mine between games and onꦑly remember once I've started playing. It'd be nice to not have to lift the mouse.
It's a large mouse, so if you're a claw gripper, this may not be for you. I found it to be incredibly comfortable with a design tཧhat supported a great grip. The buttons all have a reasonable travel distance and satisfying click, but my biggest complaint is how light the mouse is with no weight options. For the price though, ($29.90 on Amazon) you can't beat it.
Puri TKL Keyboard: Travel With Power
The is a portable keyboard that doesn't sacrifice what gamers ne♔ed to stay competitive. At just under 15" long, this 10 key-less device fits easily in a backpack or suitcase. The USB cable is removable so you don't have to try to wrap it around the keyboard and it comes with an extremely durable magnetic cover. It's quite thick 🔜and heavy compared to consumer travel keyboards, but that's because the Puri TKL has a full set of mechanical keys that are 100% RGB programmable.
Because of its size, there aren't any extra keys for controlling the function of the keyboard. The function key is doing a ton of work here, considering just how much customization is available. You'll need to remember a series of multi-step commands if you intend to change the backlight pattern or reprogram the keys, which I honestly don't really expect anyone to do. It would have been nice to have a key s🌃pecifically for simply turning the backlight off, but committing one key combo to memory isn't the end of the world.
Alternatively, you can install the control soft♈ware from Cougar's website that allows you to program the keyboard. The UI is rather basic, but it gets the job done, provided you don't mind downloading more software.
The keyboard feels great. It's incredibly sturdy, and once again the LED backlights are stunn👍ing. Each individual key is programmable, or you can cycle through 14 unique effects that vary from twinkling lights to bursts of color with every keystroke. I had a lot of fun exploring the different presets and I found a number of them to be really unique and interesting. Even under the opaque keyboard cover the lights look really cool and add a nice am♏biance at home or on the road. You can get the Puri Tkl with either Blue or Red MX switches on Amazon for $79.99, an absolute steal.
Immersa Pro Ti Headphones: Unique Design And Great Customization
Between the 3 devi🌳ces, the were the ones I connected with the least, but I also think headphones are the most subjective and personal gaming device. After all, they wrap ar🥂ound your brain.
The Immersa Pro Ti headphones have a unique double-loop headband that stretches as you put it on so that it fits snugly without needing to adjust the headband up and down to find the correct fit. It's an impressive bit of ingenuity, but for me, this meant the tension on the cans themselves was doing most of the work to hold them on my head, meaning they felt tighter than my personal headphones in a slightly unpleasant way. That tightness might not bother everyone, but it was a lit𒉰tle uncomfortable for me.
The microphone is the flexible kind that can be adjusted to any position which I𝓀 always appreciate more than the arm kind that sticks out. I was told that my voice was much clear🗹er than with my own headphones, and the windscreen that came with them meant that my fan didn't make quite as much noise, a problem I constantly have when I game at my desk.
The cans have RGB customization as well, which can be adjusted from the control software along with the equa🙈lizer. I would prefer a Cougar suite that allows me to adjust all my Cougar accessories from one program rather than a different program 🌟for each one though.
The headphones themselves sound fantastic with a little tweaking to the equalizer, even compared to my Corsair headphones tꦰhat cost twice the price. At $79.50 on Amazon, this headset is w🔥ell worth checking out.
For a combined total of under $200, this set of accessories is a killer deal. Cougar has a pretty substantial line of mice, keyboards, and headsets available and I can't wait to trꦉy out more of their product. Everything I tried out this week was quality built, performed as expected, and had enough little touches and details to show that they care a lot about their products. I've spent double for each of these three accessories and if I could go back, I would have gotten Cougar.
You can fin⛄d all of these products, and more, on .
