FromSoftware has always played around with horror in a fantasy setting when it comes to the Soulsborne franchise, a fact very reminiscent of their work on the series. is arguably the darkest game in the series and that’s really saying something given how oppressive the atmosphere is between and . The Cathedral of the Deep is as much a palace as it is a living tomb for those buried within. brings players to the Cathedral of the Deep roughly a third of the way through the story, emphasizing vertical level design and branching patღhs that weave in & out of other shortcuts. The Cathedral of the Deep can be overwhelming to explore on a first playthrough, but it's relatively simple to navigate once you understand the layout.
At the end of the Cathedral lie the Deacons of the Deep, a multi-enemy boss fight ready to give players hell. The Deacons of the Deep are unique even by Dark Souls 3’s standards, forgoing a central boss figure for several enemies rushing the player. The Deacons of the Deep aren’t too hard to put down, but it’s always unnerving taking on a lit📖eral army of enemies at once.
The Cathedral Of The Deep
While a bit confusing on a first run, the Cathedral of the Deep isn’t too difficult to traverse so long as you’re patient and observant. There are many dangerous enemies throughout (Giant Slaves and Deep Accursed can be serious threats) along with plenty of fodder to cut through (Hollow Slaves, Cathedral K🍒nights, etc.).
The Cathedral of the Deep is also home to🅺 Rosario, Mother of Rebirth, an NPC who players can change their appearance or respec their stats with when spoken to. The boss gate for the Deacons of the Deep can be found in the prayer room where all the pews are. Head down the stairs to reach the gate, but s𒆙tick around if you need to summon.
Available Summons
For anyone playing Dark Souls 3 online, but still in need of help, there are three summonable allies available outside of the Deacons of the Deep boss room. Anri o🍌f Astora, Sirris of the Sunless Realms, and Horace the Hushed can be summoned, but you can normally only summon two at once without the use of a Dried Finger.
Keep in mind that summoning allies will increase the boss’ overall health, so anyone struggling against the Deacons of the Deep might just be prolonging their problems. Once𝔍 ready, head into the boss rooꩵm.
Defeating The Deacons Of The Deep
The Deacon🌌s of the Deep can be overwhelming if you stall too long. The boss fight pits players against a horde of Deacons at once, including spellcasters (who are better off killed sooner rather than later). During the first half of the fight, the Deacons of the Deep will pas a red aura between one another – focus on attacking whichever Deacon is glowing red.
During the second phase, one Deacon will take on the red aura for himself while the other Deacons guard them and try to fight you off. A heavy weapon with a wide arc goes a long way here, helping you cut down several Deacons at once. If you’re fast enough, it’s even possible to kill the Deacons of the Deep before things get too dicey꧂.
