In short: Solaire is the best. Not only is his bucket helmet quite the fashion statement, but he is also an extremely helpful companion for boss battles, and a friendly guy to boot. Follow these steps so you can keep Solaire around and learn more about everyone's favorite Knight of Astora, as well.

Updated August 27th, 2021 by Theodore Yurevitch: Thankfully for Solaire of Astora, there are more ways that have been discovered to save this light-loving knight. He's a fan favorite who has become a meme for the ages, but Dark Souls players aren't the only ones who love him.

11 Start Solaire's Questline

The first step to saving Solaire is pretty simple: you have to find him and get his questline going. You'll first meet Solaire in the Undead Burg, which is the first real area of the game after the tutorial zone, the Undead Asylum.

  • Location: After the Taurus Demon boss fight, find the bridge with a fire-breathing dragon setting everything ablaze. Instead of heading 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:down the bridge, turn around and find Solaire standing on a promontory, bathing in sunlight.
  • Required action: Talk to Solaire until you exhaust his dialogue options. After accepting his offer, he'll give you the White Sign Soapstone.

After finding and speaking to Solaire, he'll then move on to his next location.

10 ♔ Join the Chaos Servant Covenan🍨t

Progressing Solaire's questline without deviating to make some important choices will lead to him eventually going insane. In order to save him the most straightforward way (which isn't really straightforward at all), you'll have to find and join the Chaos Servant Covenant.

  • Location: After beating the boss of Blighttown, Quelaag, you'll enter a belltower. On the bottom floor of the belltower is an invisible wall. Go through this wall.
  • Required action: Talk to the two NPCs behind the invisible wall and agree to everything they say until you're offered admittance to the Chaos Servant Covenant. Join the covenant

Once you're a Chaos Servant, you will be on track to unlock the path necessary to saving Solaire.

9 ꦰ Find S꧂olaire In Anor Londo

As you progress through the game, you can summon Solaire for a number of boss battles. You should! He's a great meat shield, but don't let him die. Eventually, you'll find him again as a normal NPC.

  • Location: Solaire will be sitting next to the first bonfire you find in the Anor Londo Cathedral, after getting by the Silver Knight Archers.
  • Required action: Talk to Solaire until you exhaust his dialogue options.

After speaking to Solair in Anor Londo, he will move to his next location🎀 and you will be able to progress his questline.

8 🥀 Adva♈nce Rank In The Chaos Servant Covenant

Dark Souls group of Humanity phantoms floating around

In order to be able to save Solaire the way the game arguably intended, you will have to rank up in the Chaos ℱServant Covenant.

  • Location: Return to the room at the bottom of the belltower after Queelag.
  • Required action: Talk to the Daughter of Chaos, the half-spider-half-woman who let you into the covenant. To advance your rank in the covenant, offer her 30 Humanity.

Doing this will give you a +2 covenant rank. This o꧃pens up a cruc𒆙ial pathway to ultimately saving Solaire.

7 🌸 Head To Lost Izalith

Dark Souls Chosen undead before Lost Izalith Shortcut

Here is where it gets complicated. If you proceed normally through the game, you'll find Solaire in the Demon Ruins right after defeating the Centipede Demon and right before Lost Izalith. He'll be sitting by the bonfire. If you head directly into Lost Izalith, Solaire will go insane and try and kill you. Don't go directly into Lost Izalith on this route. You must find the secret path.

  • Location: 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:The secret path is located in the room full of walkable roots right before the Demon Firesage boss room.
  • Required action: Follow the roots downward, go down some steps, and then open the large doors at the end of the corridor.

So long as you have a +2 covenant rank with the Chaos Servants, yꦜou will be able to open the doors and enter Lost Izalꦿith through the secret path.

6 ౠ Kill The Red-Eyed Chaos Bug

Dark Souls Red Eyed Chaos Bug in Lost Izalith Shortcut

Once you open the doors, you will find a bunch of Chaos Bugs skittering around. Nine to be exact. Eight of them are꧃ normal, but one of them is the Red-Eyed Chaos Bug, which will not respawn upon death. This one must be killed in 🐼order to save Solaire.

  • Location: Behind the doors to the secret path to Lost Izalith.
  • Required action: Kill the Red-Eyed Chaos Bug. You'll know you've done the right one in because it will drop a Sunlight Maggot upon death.

If you don't kill the Red-Eyed Chaos Bug and proceed with the game, it will infect Solaire and cause him to go insane.

5 💟 Alternate Method To Kill The Red-Eyed Chaos Bug

Dark souls toxic mist spell icon

If you don't join and rank up in the Chaos Servants Covenant, you can still kill the Red-Eyed Chaos Bug, but it's a little trickier.

  • Location: Before the doors to the secret path to Lost Izalith. Without advancing your rank in the Chaos Servant Covenant, they will not open.
  • Required action: Kill the Red-Eyed Chaos Bug by casting Poison Mist, Toxic Mist, Dark Fog, or White Dragon Breath. These attacks will go through the door and, if lucky, will kill the bug you're looking for.

You'll know when you've gotten the right bug because it will give you more souls than the others. Pay attention and keep trying and you should eventually be able to get the Red-Eyed Chaos Bug this way.

4 💜 A꧙dditional Methods To Save Solaire Alive

Another way to stop Solaire from going insane is to 🍬disrupt his questline for a while.

Ignore Solaire In Anor Londo

Instead of talking to Solaire in Anor Londo, proceed in the game to Lost Izalith and then get to the hall with the Red-Eyed Chaos Bug and kill it. You can do this by going throug♕h the main entrance to Lost Izalith and exploring the level until you find the necessary hallway with the Chaos Bugs. Neღxt, go back to Anor Londo, speak to Solaire, and continue advancing him through the game.

Temporarily Turn Solaire Hostile

One other way to save him is to hit him when you encounter him after the Centipede Demon boss fight. So long as you don't kill him and then eventually kill the Red-Eyed Chaos Bug, you can then ask for absolution from Oswald of Carim and get him back to 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:being your friend.

3 Finishing The🐈 Game With Solaire

Dark Souls Solaire on fire after linking the final flame at end of the game

So long as you eventually kill the Red-Eyed Chaos Bug before progressing Solaire's quest too far, you can keep him from going insane and getting killed. If he's alive by the time you reach the end of the game, you can even summon him to fight the final boss, Gwyn, Lord of Cinder. If you do so, though, be prepared to reduce this final encounter to a cakewalk.

Nevertheless, it is nice eꦏnding the game with th🧸e best character in all of Dark Souls by your side.

2 Solaire Is Miyazaki's Favorite Character

Dark souls hidetaka miyazaki and solaire doing the praise the sun

Solaire isn't just a beloved character among fans, he's also a beloved character for 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Hidetaka Miyazaki, the creator and creative brain behind the Soulsborne series. Miyazaki himself has said that Solaire is his favorite character and that if Solaire was in the player's shoes and had to decide whether to link the final bonfire or not, he would certainly choose to do so and subsequently die having finally achieved his dream to become the sun.

You can't actually see this happen in the game, as it has sometimes been rumored, but it's cool (or should we say, hot) to imagine.
