168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Darkest Dungeon 2 is a game full of difficult battles, and few are more challenging than the Dreaming General. He deals heavy damage, lurks at the end of a particularly dangerous Lair, and can render your entire team helpless if you aren't careful.
Just getting to the Dreaming General can be tough considering how powerful his soldiers in the Lost Battalion are. He's not the kind of boss you can easily grind, so it's important to be ready each time you challenge him. This guide will tell you everything you need to know - the rest is up to you.
Updated on May 14, 2023 by Matt Arnold: With the full launch of Darkest Dungeon 2, many of the early access bosses have been tweaked slightly. We've updated this guide to reflect the current version of the Dreaming General. The strategy remains the same, but there are a few key changes to the fight, including the General's HP total and move set - be sure to check them out before venturing into the Tangle again!
Where To Find The Dreaming General
Any time the Stagecoach travels through the Tangle, there is a chance to encounter the Dreaming General. His Lair, the General's Keep, can be found in that region. 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Like any other Lair, you'll need to fight your way through two floors of minions before battling the boss.
You'll be partially healed between floors, but if you aren't confident you can take the General down, you can always retreat before approaching him and try again on a different run.
The General's Keep is guarded by the Lost Battalion, one of the game's toughest enemy groups. They're coordinated, hard-hitting, and can even be revived at full health by a Bishop. Be sure to equip at least one Skill that can clear corpses, such as the 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Graverobber's Dead of Night or the 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Leper's Purge while traversing the Tangle. The 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Highwayman's 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Highway Robbery skill is also useful for removing the large number of buffs the Battalion uses, and 🌳the upgraded version can even steal those buffs and apply them to the Highwayman.
The Lost Battalion - and, importantly, the Dreaming General - are susceptible to Burn. 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Having the Runaway in your party will make dealing with these foes much easier. Blight also works decently well, so if by some miracle your 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Plague Doctor isn't busy healing the wounded she can apply additional persistent damage.
Lastly - and this is key - have multiple attacks that can hit the rear rank. If you can't land hits on the Tap Root behind the General, you're certain to lose this fight..
How To Defeat The Dreaming General
The Dreaming General consists of two entities on the battlefield - the General himself, who has 185 HP, and the Tap Root, which can be attacked but never takes damage. You only need to defeat the Dreaming General, but you'll have to attack the Tap Root throughout the fight to have any chance of survival.
The Dreaming General is capable of dealing significant damage and Stress.. The former can be mitigated somewhat with Skills that grant Block or Evasion, but being ready to resist and manage Stress can be the difference between victory and defeat in this fight. Even then, expect to have some or all of your Heroes experience a Meltdown during the battle.
The General's attacks, Unsettling Whispers and The Walking Dead, deal damage to a single target and inflict Stress on the entire party. The Walking Dead deals significantly more Stress but is always telegraphed with a move called The Soil Stirs.
The Tap Root
The Tap Root is always in the rear enemy rank. It doesn't attack, but instead uses Creeping Growth at the start of each round. This deals no damage, but places Tangled Growth tokens on Heroes. The first time the Tap Root uses Creeping Growth (at the very start of the fight) it affects all Heroes, while on subsequent rounds it hits two targets at random.
Number of Growth Tokens |
Effect |
---|---|
1 |
None - attaಌc☂k the Tap Root to cause the vines to recede. |
2 |
Reduces the Hero's Speed, causing them to act later in the round. |
3 |
The hero cannot use any Skills, and must instead spend their turn performing Whispering Darkness. Whispering Darkness inflicts Stress on all party members. |
Attacking the Tap Root will remove one token from an affected hero, chosen at random. Since the Tap Root is behind the Dreaming General, you'll need to use ranged attacks to beat it back. Meanwhile, your melee heroes should focus on beating down the Dreaming General. Heroes cannot get rid of Tangled Growth tokens completely - each party member will be stuck with a minimum of one for the duration of the fight.
The need to spread your attacks between two targets combined with the Dreaming General's high HP can make this a long, draining fight, but if you manage the flow and tempo of the battle, you'll be able to come out on top. Damage over time from Burn and Blight will work wonders to speed up the battle, as will Strength and C🍬rit tokens where🔜ver you can find them.
Tank heroes like the 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Man-At-Arms and the Leper can use Taunt to absorb most of the damage from the Dreaming General's attacks; the Leper's ability to heal himself makes him a great choice for this since it will free up the Plague Doctor to spread Blight and buff attacks with Emboldening Vapors.
When the General marks your Heroes with The Soil Stirs, he will attack the next round with a powerful attack on the indicated positions. This deals heavy damage but reduces the number of Tangled Growth tokens on the targets; with some careful positioning, you can use this to remove tokens at the expense༒ of ౠsome health.
If every living party member is completely entangled, the Dreaming General will cast Nightmare, which deals heavy damage to the entire party and removes all but one Tangled Growth token from each character. This means you'll never be completely locked out of the fight.
One Last Word Of Advice
Don't assume that you'll be entering battle against the Dreaming General at full strength. By the time you reach him, you will have taken damage and Stress, and some party members may be suffering from negative affinity. Darkest Dungeon 2 is a hard game, and sometimes all the preparation in the world won't save you from an unlucky run. If the Dreaming General defeats you, keep trying - you'll get your revenge eventually.
