Days Gone directors Jeff Ross and John Garvin have revealed they are leaving Bend Studio. Both announced their departure via tweet simultaneously. Ross, the game’s director, will be finishing out the week, while John Garvin, the game's creative director and writer, stated he had taken leave after 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Days Gone was launched in April 2019.
Ross is reportedly headed to Chicago, and Garvin, who has been with the studio for 22 years, has decided to take a sabbatical and focus on personal projects. Their departure hasn’t surprised many industry insiders given that Days Gone was poorly rece🌜ived despite being popular with players.
Bend Studio, originally known as Blank, Berlyn & Co., was founded by Marc Blank and M🐻ichael Berlyn in 1993 and originally developed games for the Apple Newton. Its first console game was Bubsy 3D, which was released in 1996 for PlayStation. The game was poorly received and bombed commercially. The studio has also released Syphon Filter, Resistance: Retribution, and Uncharted: Golden Abyss, as well as its sequels.
Originally scheduled for a 2018 launch, Days Gone was repeatedly delayed. Played from a third-pe🍬rson perspective, the game takes place in a post-apocalyptic Oregon two years after a global pandemic begins spreading. The story follows a drifter named Deacon St. John who discovers the that his wife Sarah may still be alive and sets off on a journey to find her.
Although critics lauded th🐻e open world feature of the action-adventure survival horror game, as well as its gameplay and Sam Witwer's portrayal🐻 of Deacon, many thought the storyline and character development was lacking.
Despite its critical reception, Days Gone was the bestselling physical game in the UK the week it was released and became the bestselling software release in all format sales charts for three weeks in a row. In Japan, the game outsold 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:God of War and Horizon Zero Dawn, and in North America, it was the second bestselling game software for April 2019, after 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Mortal Kombat 11, and by June, it had become the eighth bestselling video ⭕game of the year.
