The Spirit, also known as Rin Yamaoka, is renowned for being one of the game's strongest killers. With the help of her power, perks, and add-ons, the Spirit is undeniably powerful when played right. So, here’s a handful of tips on how to make the most out of your games playing as The Spirit.

The Spirit’s Power

Dead by Daylight Shattered Bloodlines

The Spirit’s power is Yamaoka’s Haunting.

This power allows The Spirit to stand still and enter a form🔥 of spiritual realm in which she can roam, at quite the speed, around the map for five seconds. This is referred to as ‘phasing’ or ‘phasewalking’. While phasing, ꦉThe Spirit cannot see survivors, but she can see any scratch marks that they leave behind, and hear them.

This is par﷽ticularly useful for shocking survivors on generators or doing other tasks around the map. Additionally, it can be useful for gaining distance quickly and getting hits.

Once The Spirit’s power is used, 🍌Yamaoka’s Haunting takes 15 seconds before it can be use𓄧d again. Alternatively, The Spirit may wait 7.5 seconds and then use half of her power.

The Spirit’s Perks

Dead by Daylight The Spirit Mori

Spirit Fury - This perk is activated once you𒐪 break 4/3/2 pallets. The next time a su🐎rvivor uses a pallet to stun you, the Entity will automatically break the pallet; you will still be stunned, however. The perk is unlocked as a teachable perk, available in the bloodwebs of all other killers, at level 30.

Hex: Haunted Ground - Once a match begins, two hex totems are spawned that are traps. If a survivor cleanses either of these totems, all survivors will then be inflicted with the exposed status effect for 40/50/60 seconds, meaning that they can be put into the dying state during this time. Once one of the trapped totems is cleansed, the second trapped totem will then become a dull totem. The𝐆 perk is unlocked as a teachable perk at level 35.

Rancor - You are obsessed with one survivor and your aura will be revealed to them for 5/4/3 seconds, while the locations of all survivors are revealed to you for 3 seconds. When all generators are completed, this survivor will be permanently affected by the exposed status, meaning you can kill them with your own hand (also known as♎ a mori). The perk is unlocked as a teachable perk at level 40.

The Spirit’s Best Add-Ons

Dead by Daylight The Spirit

Mother-Daughter Ring - During your power, Yamaoka’s Haunting, your speed will be tremendously increased. You can quite literally make your way hal🌞fway across most maps in this time, but it takes away your ability to see the scratch marks of survivors. However, if the survivor is injured, you will be able to hear them.

Father’s Glasses - This iridescent add-on allows you to not only see the scratch m🌜arks of survivors while using Yamaoka’s Haunting, but see their pools of blood, too. This can be very powerful in combination with the perk Sloppy Butcher, which essentially m🔯akes survivors bleed more than they already do.

Prayer Beads Bracelet - All survivors outside of yo🧸ur terror radius will hear you when you’re phasing (rather than just survivors within your terror radius). This can keep all survivors from completing their objectives if they’re hiding from you as they hear your ‘whoosh’.

Bloody Hair Brooch - This considerably increases the charge time of your 𒁃Yamaoka Haunting power, so you can use it even more and essentially get around the map very quickly. It grants you lots of control across the map.

Tips For Playing As The Spirit

Dead by Daylight The Spirit Phasing

When played right, it’s near impossible to counter The Spirit due to the amount of control — and pressure — that her power can apply across the map. Here are some simple tips to help you maste🧜r playing😼 her:

  • A good way to begin a game is by phasing to generators furthest away from where you have spawned. There is a good chance there will be a survivor trying to repair it, or nearby to it, at least.
  • Using your power, Yamaoka’s Haunting, is best when survivors are injured. Many will not want to risk being put into the dying state and getting hooked, and will panic and run. This leaves you to make the most of the scratch marks that they leave behind.
  • After exiting phasing, you will keep your momentum for a brief moment. You can use this opportunity to lunge at survivors instantly with a basic attack, even if they’re a little further away than usual.
  • Perhaps the oldest trick in the book is the ‘passive phase,’ but survivors still fall for it. This is when you use your power to look like you’re phasing but instead, you stay exactly where you are. In a lot of cases, survivors will head toward you to try and avoid you or the area you’re headed to, but then you surprise them by having not moved at all. Whether you move or not while in the phasing state, you still emit your ‘whoosh’ sound, so survivors can never really tell if you’re faking or not. It’s certainly a fun tactic to take a risk with and try.
  • When phasing, tactical survivors will walk to avoid you from seeing their scratch marks. Instead, try to listen for their breathing.
  • Finally, don’t use your entire phasewalk all at once — utilize it to the best of your ability and be tactical.

As you get used to playing as The Spirit, 🐼you will sꦐoon have great control across the map and find survivors simply playing into your plans and sneaky tactics — you’d hope.
