Colt at first is quite the enigma, suffering from a bout of amnesia doesn't help reveal things and it's from there the game's story plays out, as you find out his true identity and why the day keeps repeating itself.
As it turns out, Colt is a lot more involved in the looping day than it first seems. There's a lot of background information to crawl through in-game from various notes and prompts, and it can be a bit tricky to figure out some of the more obscure and interesting parts as the game doesn't always quite fully explain things. Not that it's a detriment, but to help you figure out Colt and how he got himself stuck in this Groundhogs Day from hell, here's everything you need to know about Colt's backstory in Deathloop.

Who Is Colt?
Little is known about our protagonist at first, but as the game wears on various tidbits are drip-fed from different sources, either text or audio notes scattered around, or from banter on the radio with Juliana. Our hero is known as Colt Vahn or The Captain, and is a badass action man extraordinaire. He's a henchmen's worst nightmare wrapped in a stylish suit with an attitude to match, courtesy of his voice actor Jason E. Kelley. Born in 1911 in a country referred to as The Motherland, a fictional mainland that gives everyone an American accent in this universe. He's a highly trained combat specialist and was a member of the original expedition to Blackreef in 1930 to study an anomaly that warped time, referred to in-game as Operation Horizon.
Connection To The Loop
Whilst he was at Blackreef, Colt became intimately involved with another expedition member, Lila Blake, with who he would later father a child - Juliana. Be༺cause of this romantic entanglement, he was demoted from his position and after volunteering for the first manned trip into the anomaly onboard the Rakyetoplan Rocket, he subsequently disappeared inside the temporal rift.
Seemingly lost forever, it was 17 years before he would reappear, crashing a rickety seaplane into the docks of Huishi village in a spectacular splinter-filled explosion, claiming to those that found him that he had lived out the same day over and over again. Later succumbing to a mental breakdown after finding out Lila had passed from an illness whilst he was stuck inside the Loop, he was locked away by the Dargyey Institute for st💫udy, therapy, and to protect the anomaly.
From there, things go from strange to stranger, as Egor Serling, philanthropist, egotist, and infamous aestheticist would break him out and recruit him for the AEON Program - an organization that was comprised of some questionable people who planned to exploit and experiment on the time manipulation properties of the anomaly in the hopes of gaining immortality or some form of 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:special abilities from it.
The Visionary
After joining the AEON Program and leading them to Blackreef's location and the temporal tear within, Colt was summarily made the Security Head of the entire facility that was constructed by this shady group. His role was to ensure that the site, the anomaly, and the debased debauchery within were kept secret by any means necessary. Threats to the Loop from outside interlopers and from Eternalists (the henchmen of the Visionaries) within that might have gone rogue were swiftly interrogated and summarily executed. Colt was very good at his job.
After a time, he created the Loop Preservation Protocol (LPP) with fellow Visionary (and implied love interest) Frank Spicer, a system that identified the weaknesses and vulnerabilities of each Visionary, including himself, and how they can be protected should a significant threat to the Loop arrive. Colt is also the only person aside from Juliana, an 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Eternalist named Pick, and the AI 2-Bit who retains t𝓰heir memories of previous loops - an ability other Visionaries such as Wenjie Evan❀s are keen to gain for themselves.
The Rebel
At some point, Colt turns against this system after years of waking up on the same beach time after time, the repetition of days taking a mental toll, draining him. Plus a life without Lila was no paradise, but an eternal hell. So he sets forth to destabilize and escape the society he helped create by eliminating all the Visionaries within a single day's loop. This also included his now-grown-up daughter Juliana, who had become Blackreefs new Head of Security after Colt turned rogue. A Visionary herself, Juliana actively hunts her father after enduring years of trauma and fear in the loop from being killed by her father over and over again. His failed attempts eventually trained her to surpass Colt's own skills as she began to enjoy the thrill of the hunt as her dad tried for years to shut down the Loop.
Colt's memories of those years eventually degraded as the mental trauma from the repetition of the same quest, again and again, eroded his mind. He began to disassociate from himself, the memories forming helpful notes from past attempts. These echoes of past Loops would occasionally appear in-game as floating text scrawled on objects or the air like internal notes to himself. Breaking the Loop is a tall order and our hero has his work cut out for him, but with an infinite timeline and an unlimited amount of attempts, eventually, he'll crack that nut.
Colts Fate
Though Colt helped create the system which he now fights against, as a Visionary himself his life is also tied to 𝓡the Loop. So at th🐬e end of the game, there’s a choice as to what his fate and that of the anomaly are.
There are 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:three endings in Deathloop that can be unlocked and each one has a different fate for old Colt depending on what's chosen. They’re not too wildly different, and thankfully you don’t need to jump through a lot of hoops to trigger them. Here’s what can happen to Colt at the 𝕴end of Dea🌞thloop.

Break The Loop
The easiest ending to gain and the default for most, breaking the Loop is Colt seeing his mission through to the end. To un🎐lock it, during the final confrontation with Juliana all you need to do is just shoot her before she counts to three.
With Juliana dead, Colt is left as the last visionary alive, and the Loop is one last death away from ending. From there he's prompted to throw himself off the building to what’s assumed is his final death. But moments later he awakes on the shores of Blackreef once again, but this time with Juliana standing over him pointing a gun directly at him. However, instead of firing she lowers it and walks away, the Loop broken and their freedom gained, though what happens to Colt afterward is unknown.
Reset The Loop
Though Colt's goal from the beginning was to break and end the Loop, you can choose to remain in the temporal anomalies field of influence and keep the party going forever.
To do this, you need to shoot Juliana before she counts to three. Then when you’re prompted to plunge to your death, don’t. Simply sit back dඣown in the nearby chair and the day will reset, Colt will get sucked back into the loop and everything will begin again like it never happened. From there you’ll be prompted to go off and kill the Visionaries once again.
Spare Juliana
The final ending you can choose is to spare Juliana and remain alive inside the Loop together. To manage this, don’t shoot Juliana during her dramatic countdown, even after she draws on you. She won’t fire and both of you will be absorbed once again back into the Loop to start the day anew.
However, this time, Juliana isn’t pursuing Colt to the ends of the island. Instead, they’re chatting casually, making dinner plans, and seemingly excited to spend an eternity getting to know each other as father and daughter. Able to do whatever they want, be that partying or 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:massacring the other Visionarys purely for the fun of it, it’s a more pleasant ending that also has an extra mid-credits scene that’s cute, and although not the “true” ending, it’s considered by many to be the better of the three options as it's not as melancholic an end to Colt's tale.
