Deathloop is going to take full advantage of PS5's new DualSense controller, ꦑas the latest PlayStation Blog detailed exciting new features we can expect to see in Arkane's latest title – including adaptive triggers that simulate a gun malfunction.
The 🎶post, , Senior Content Manger at Bethesda, offers a detailed look at how Deathloop will utilize the new technology within PS5's DualSense controller. You'll feel the controller rumble as you scramble up a brick wall, you'll hear ✃a soft beep come from the controller as you walk towards proximity mines, and each gun will have its own distinct way of using the adaptive triggers.
Arguably the most exciting use of thಌe triggers comes in the form of weapon malfunctions. Early on in your Deathloop career, most of the guns you handle will be rusty hunks of junk prone to jamming. When this happens, you'll obviously receive feedback in-game (typically in the form of your player smacking their hand against the weapon to unjam it), but you'll also be unable to fully depress the DualSense's triggers.
Lewis notes, "When a low-tier we⛎apon is jammed, your trigger button will be blocked halfway, giving you instantaneous feedback even before the animation notifies you. It's a momentary setback that could force you to retreat for a beat while you fix it. As you're watching your character on-screen punch the gun and get it in working order, you'll feel a correlating strike in your controller, activating the mechanism to unjam it."
While that might be the most creative use of the DualSense to date, that's not all Deathloop is doing with the controller. Beyond combat, you'll be able to feel different vibrations coming from the controller based on the type of movement you're performing. Running, sliding,༺ climbing and sneaking all offer a different tactile sensation, thanks to the new haptics inside PS5's controller.
Deathloop is set to release in May 2021 on PS5 and 𝔍PC. The timed-exclusive will likely see a release on Xbox after its one-year deal with Sony has expired.
