Demon Slayer: The Hinokami Chronicles is the latest fighting game from CyberConnect 2. As the first official adaption of Koyoharu Gotouge's bestselling story, anime fans have been anxiously awaiting getting their hands on the title.

Like any fighting game, Demon Slayer: The Hinokami Chronicles has an impressive list of unique characters for players to use. However, when first booting up the game you'll quickly notice that most of the roster isn't available. There are 12 unlockable playable characters in the game overall. Keep reading to find out how to unlock them all.

How Do You Unlock Every Character In Demon Slayer: The Hinokami Chronicles?

When the game first begins, players will instantly be thrust into the prologue of Tanjiro's adventure. In the midst of training under master Sankoji Urokodaki, Tanjiro engages in battle with the mysterious Sabito - a young boy who's aiming to help the protagonist in his quest to enter the Final Selection to become a Demon Slayer. You'll battle your way through the prologue and successfully unlock Tanjiro, Urododaki, Sabito, and Makomo as the first four playable characters once the chap♐ter ends.

Once story mode navigation is further explained, it's revealed that the majority of characters will be unlocked in the same way - by simply playing through the story. However, some are obtained through completing specific mission objectives and earning rewards. Here's a detailed guide to unlocking every character, their corresponding story chapters, and mission objectives.

Nezuko Kamado

Nezuko, Tanjiro's younger sister turned adorable demon, is unlocked after the player has completed Chapter 2 of the story mode - The Swamp Demon. Throughout the chapter, Tanjiro receives his Nichirin Demon Slayer sword and is tasked with his first mission to investigate the disappearances of girls in a small Nor🐷thwest town.

Players will control Nezuko during the boss battle against the Two Horned Swamp Demon, and she'll become a playable character after the chapter is finished.

Zenitsu Agatsuma

Zentisu is a fellow Demon Slayer and Tanjiro's cowardly friend who uses the electric lightning breathing technique. He can be unlocked after completing Chapter 4 of the story - Echoing Drums.

Tanjiro and Zenitsu cross paths when Tanjiro is returning from the Northwest village. After an awkward first impression, they're sent on a mission together to a demon-infested mansion house. Players take control of Zenitsu during this segment of the story, and he becomes available on the playable roster at the end of the chapter.

Inosuke Hashibira

Inosuke is another final selection survivor who joins Tanjiro's party following the events of drum mansion. He can also be unlocked after finishing Chapter 4 of story mode.

Insouke meets Tanjio and Zenitsu at the mansion as he's relentlessly tracking the drum demon, Kyogai. After first battling as Zenitsu you'll suddenly be playing as Inosuke, tackling a Large Demon in battle. The boar-headed fighter becomes unlocked when Echoing Drums is completed.

Murata

Another member of the Demon Slayer Corps, the timid but brave Murata meets Tanjiro and company on Natagumo Mountain. He can be unlocked after completing Chapter 5 of the story mode, Hinokami.

After exploring the mountain area, Tanjiro and Inosuke meet Murata, who explains in a cutscene how many members of the Corps suddenly started attacking one another after being controlled by an external force. The player will spend the rest of the chapter fighting the five members of The Spider Family, and Murata is added to the roster as a playable character once the chapter ends.

Giyu Tomioka

The water master of the Demon Slayer Corps, Tomioka becomes available to play after Chapter 6 of the story mode, Hashira Meeting, is completed.

After the battle with Rui, Tanjiro wakes up at the Demon Slayer Corps Headquarters, the Butterfly Mansion, where he's set to stand trial for defending a demon (Nezuko.) After exploring the area and meeting the Hashira the chapter will end, and Tomioka will be unlocked.

Shinobu Kocho

An expert healer, Shinobu Kocho becomes unlocked once Chapter 7 of the story mode, The Butterfly Mansion, is completed.

During the chapter, Tanjiro, Inosuke, and Zenitsu are focused on their rehabilitation working to pass training tests. Once the tests have been conquered in the form of a few fun minigames, the chapter will end and Shinobu will be added to the playable character roster.

Kyojuro Rengoku

The legendary flame Hashira, Kyojuro Rengoku accompanies Tanjiro and friends once their rehabilitation ends, and becomes unlocked after completing Chapter 8 of the story mode - Mugen Train.

Tanjiro's group is sent to investigate the mysterious Mugen Train, accompanied by Rengoku. In the eighth and final chapter of the story, you'll confront the relentless demon Enmu, who wants to stop the slayers by destroying their spiritual cores. Once he's been defeated and the chapter ends, Rengoku will become a playable character.

Hinokami Tanjiro

During the battle with Rui on Natagumo Mountain in Chapter 5, Tanjiro was able to harness the Hinokami breathing technique passed down from his father to win the battle. In Chapter 8, wh𝓡ile on the Mugen Train, he seeks advice from Reng💃oku and is eventually able to develop his newfound skills further.

Hinokami Tanjiro becomes unlocked after completing Chapter 8 of the story mode, adding a fier▨y flair to the🍸 fighter for players to enjoy.

Alternative Academy Fighters

There are also six additional Academy Fighters in The Hinokami Chronicles that can be unlocked in exchange for the in-game currency - Kimetsu Points. These points are collected during the freꦍe roam segment of story mode chaptꦇers.

However, if you don't want to use the currency, there are specific requirements that can be meant to unlock each character. These are as follows:

Academy Tanjiro can be unlocked by viewing 40 memory fragments.
Academy Nezuko can be unlocked by viewing all 53 memory fragments.
Academy Zenitsu can be unlocked by completing 15 reward missions.
Academy Inosuke can be unlocked by completing 19 reward missions.
Academy Giyu can be unlocked by completing seven special missions on normal difficultly.
Academy Shinobu can be unlocked by completing seven special missions on hard difficultly.
