This issue was thankfully fixed in Dark Souls onward, but in Demonღ's Souls Shards of Archstone, which take you back to the Nexus, are rare and expensive. Sometimes you are forced to go to a boss with an abundance of souls, putting you at high risk of losing all of them if you die twice without first recovering them. It forces you to think before entering a fight, but it feels so unfair when a boss can eliminate the protagonist with just a couple of hits. Some bosses have multiple phases, forcing you to drain their health bar twice before claiming vꦿictory. If you die while on the adversary's second phase, you have to fight the first incarnation again upon retrying. Some have a hard time even getting to this point, so having to do it after every failure feels like a slap on the face. In Dark Souls 3 you have to do this with both thꦆe twin princes and the King of Storms/Nameless King. Ornstein and Smough in the first Dark Souls are made infinitely harder by the two phases.

Most games ask if you would like to turn down the difficulty upon multiple deaths. While Demon's Souls does not include difficulty options, dying too many times while in human form actually makes💟 the game harder upon earning black world tendency.
