This guide will showcase how to complete every puzzle in the Imbaru Engine activity, including the Test of Cunning, Strength, ꧃and Navigation.
Updated November 7, 2023, by Charles Burgar: Bungie has released the fourth and final Imbaru Engine test with this week's reset. Completing this final test is quite difficult, but doing so will award a unique shader and a cutscene that teases Season 23. We've updated this guide to explain where to find the Parting Gift card that unlocks this test, how to light the three braziers required to start, and how to solve the trial itself.
Unlocking The Imbaru Engine
The Imbaru Engine activity is unlocked upon completing the fifth week of "The Bladed Path" quest. Thisꦐ is the seasonal quest for Season of theꦇ Witch, available immediately after logging in if you own the season. The activity itself is located right next to Altars of Summoning in the H.E.L.M.
No modifiers or enemies are present in the Imbaru Engine, so feel free🅰 to start the activity with any loadout. No matchmaking is present, but the activity can be cleared solo with little issue.
Test Of Strength Card Location

Before you can attempt the Test of Strength challenge, you must first find the test's respective Minor Arcana card. The Test of Strength card may be found in Savathun's Spire just before you enter the final boss arena. Walk past the card pede🍸stal and turn to your right to find the card floating in a corner of the room. Grab it, then visit the H.E.L.M. to unlock access to the Test of Strength wing of the Imbaru Engine.
Test Of Navigation Card Location

As with the Test of Strength, the Test of Navigation requires a specific card before you may access that wing of the Imbaru Engine. The Test of Navigation card is held by a statue in the Altars of Summoning, located on the southern portion of the arena. Break the Hive crystal the statue is holding to reveal the card, then climb up the ܫstatue to grab the Opaque Card for your collection. Return to the H.E.L.M. to decipher the Opaque Card and unl✅ock the Test of Navigation Imbaru Engine trial.
A Parting Gift Card Location

The fourth and final Imbaru Engine card is in the Altars of Summoning, located above a pillar in the right-most arena. If you're looking at Savathun's Spire, turn right and make your way toward the nearby combat arena. Look slightly to your right to find a massive Hive pillar. Climb to the top to find the card. Brazier locations for accessing the final trial are listed in the "Unlocking and Solving the Test of Truth and Lies" section.
Solving The Cunning Test
The Cunning Test is broken up into three sections. Each trial has the same core objective: open the chest(s) with the correct symbol. Starting the Cunning Test, two chests will spawn directly in front of you. You'll see a plate in front of each chest, each displaying a unique Hive symbol. You want to open the chest with the 'spider' symbol, the one with a diago🐠nal sla💞sh in each corner. Unlocking the wrong chest will cause your character to die after a short delay.
After unlocking the first correct chest, a second set of chests will spawn behind you on a raised platform. You'll need to open two chests this time, both with the same symbol as before. As before, look around for nearby symbols to see which chests are safe to open. Unlock both chests to start the final test.

The final portion of this test will spawn roughly a dozen chests in the arena, but only three of them may be opened safely. You can choose to brute force this part, opening every chest and repeatedly dying until you find the correct three. Alternatively, you can take your time and focus on looking for adjacent chest symbols. Every chest has an accompanying symbol within roughly 5m. If you can't see it right away, look for a nearby wall or hidden room. Some example locations are showcased above to give you an idea of where these chests can spawn. Open the three correct chests to finish the test.
Tracker Ghost Mods
Equipping a tracker mod on your Ghost Shell will reveal the location of every chest on your HUD. You'll still need to deduce which chests are safe to open, but this should make finding each chest much easier.
Solving The Test Of Strength
Upon completing the Test of Cunning, head to the door beside the first pair of chests that spawned. If you have the Test of Strength card, you'll be able to open this door and proceed to the next test. Navigate the hallway of traps and avoid the upstairs portal.
The Test of Strength is thankfully much simpler than the Test of Cunning. Your objective is to kill the kneeling Hive units in a specific order. Kill the wrong enemy, and the test will reset. Start the encounter by interacting with the Deepsight orb directly across from the entrance. White footsteps will lead you to the first Hive unit you'll need to kill.
Under each Hive unit will be a plate that points in a specific direction. The pointer on each plate will guide you to the next target, at least for the first room. The second and third rooms have an additional rule where you must skip a mob between each plate. Completing the test 🧔will require you to kill the Hive enemies in the following or🌱der:

- Hive Knight (Starter Room): Activate Deepsight and follow the white footsteps.
- Hive Knight (Starter Room): Run directly across from the previous Knight's plate. The second Knight is found between multiple walls.
- Hive Knight (Starter Room): Run towards the inclined surface that leads to the tower structure. Kill the Knight at the top of the incline.
- Cursed Thrall (Tower): Jump into the tower structure and drop down to the ground floor. Kill the Cursed Thrall closest to you.
- Cursed Thrall (Tower): Skip the Hive Knight and kill the Cursed Thrall their plate is pointing towards.
- Cursed Thrall (Tower): Skip the next Cursed Thrall. Kill the Cursed Thrall positioned next to the tower wall.
- Cursed Thrall (Cave): Jump out of the tower and run into the cave just under the Deepsight orb. Kill the first Cursed Thrall to your left.
- Cursed Thrall (Cave): Skip a plate. Kill the Cursed Thrall the skipped plate is pointing towards.
- Cursed Thrall (Cave): Same as #8.
- Cursed Thrall (Cave): Same as #8.
Solving The Test Of Navigation
The Test of Navigation is located on a floor directly above the Test of Strength. After completing the second test, head back to the elevator room and enter the door to your left. This will lead to a hallway d🦂otted with spinning traps. Avoid the traps, ascend the gravity lift, and you will end up at the Test of Navigation chamber.
This test is arguably the simplest once you understand the central mechanic. The chamber is lined with seven dormant portals, each adorned with Hive runes of each Light element—Arc, Solar, and Void. Behind you will be a portal frame with a single rune. Your goal is to activate the portal that matches the frame behind you.
Use Hard Light or Borealis to quickඣly sw💝ap between all three Light elements.
For example, turning around after beginning the test will spawn an Arc rune to the left of the portal. This means you must look for a portal frame with a left Arc rune. In this case, that is the second portal on your left. If done correctly, entering the portal will spawn a new set of runes. Entering the wrong portal will kill you and resta❀rt the test. The last two♔ sets of runes will require you to reorient your Guardian at adjacent platforms to line up the Hive runes correctly, but otherwise, the process is the same for all four sets of portals.
F🌌or those stuck on this test, the correct order is as follows, with #1 referring to the portal closest to your left and rotating clockwise for the rest.

- Portal #2: Shoot the Arc rune to the left of the portal frame.
- Portal #5: Shoot the Solar rune positioned above the portal frame.
- Portal #4: Move slightly to the left or right, then shoot the Void rune to the right of the portal frame.
- Portal #7: Shoot the lowest hanging Solar rune to activate the portal.
The fourth set of portals will spawn a cluster of runes at the center of the chamber. Simply shoot the Solar rune that's floating the lowest to activate the last portal. If done correctly, entering the last portal will award an Ascendant Shard and two seasonal weapons. This marks the end of the Imbaru Engine activity. You may clear the Imbaru Engine once per week to acquire additional Witch's Engrams and Season of the Witch weapons.
Unlocking And Solving The Test Of Truth And Lies
Savathun has hidden a fourth and final test in the Imbaru Engine, accessible after you've completed all three previous tests. Once you've beaten the Test of Navigation, start a new Imbaru Engine run and reach the third floor. You'll find a portal adjacent to the Test of Navigation stairs.
Truth And Lies Brazier Locations
Inside the portal are three unlit braziers surrounding a Hive ritual circle. You must locate three braziers across Season of the Witch activities to begin the trial. The braziers are in the following locations:
- Imbaru Engine: Backtrack to the Test of Cunning. Interact with the Deepsight Orb and follow the trail of footsteps behind you. Ascend the wall to find the brazier.
- Savathun's Spire: Progress until you reach the labyrinth jumping section. When you make it past the swinging pendulum and spinning column gauntlet, you'll find a Deepsight Orb on the path to the final set of portals. Activate the Deepsight Orb and turn to your right. You'll find some floating platforms that wrap around a nearby pillar. Follow the platforms until you reach the brazier.
- Altars of Summoning: Travel to the base of Savathun's Spire, the tower with locked runes at the entrance. Activate the Deepsight Orb nearby and follow the newly revealed platforms.
Once you've activated all three lit braziers, boot up the Imbaru Engine one more time and reach the portal room again. You should now be able to light all three braziers. This will open the door to the fourth and final Imbaru Engine trial: the Test of Truth and Lies.
How To Solve The Test Of Truth And Lies
If you only care🍃 about the solution, skip to the n✨ext section.
The Test of Truth and Lies is easily the hardest trial in the Imbaru Engine. Savathun has expanded her two lies, one truth game into a symbol-matching minigame you'll need to solve. Start the encounter by interacting with the two runes perpendicular to the Hive ritual circle. These two runes will give you the "Truth" and "Lie x2" buffs.
With both buffs active, you can interact with Hive statues across the Imbaru Engine to uncover clues about the 16 runes in the room. Activating a statue will highlight three of these runes, revealing a circle or triangle. Your job is to activate every rune with a triangle, but there's a twist: each statue is lying about two of the symbols. You'll need to use the process of elimination and cross-compare symbols to deduce which runes are truly triangles and which are being falsely labeled.
If you want to solve this yourself, you'll quickly realize that the chamber runes alone don't give you enough information to solve the puzzle. That's because more statues exist. Once you start the test, every Hive statue in the Imbaru Engine can be interacted with, not just those in the chamber. There are 16 statues in total, four per floor. Intera💮ct withཧ each statue, record the symbols they project, and cross-reference the results to find any logical errors.
Test Of Truth And Lies Solution
We'll list the correct symbols based on the corner of the room they're located in, as that's how the runes are organized within the chamber. The statues in front of the room are labeled as "top," while the statues closest to the exit are labeled as "bottom." Runes are labeled 1-4 per corner, with the leftmost rune being "1." The image gallery above has a visual representation of the puzzle's solution.
-
Top Left Corner: Activate rune 4.
- Burger icon.
-
Top Right Corner: Activate runes 3 and 4.
- Devil Horns and Chevron X.
-
Bottom Left Corner: Activate runes 3 and 4.
- Dotted Line and Ice Cream.
-
Bottom Right Corner: Activate runes 2 and 4.
- Horizontal Lines and Neutral Face X.
Once all runes have been lit, interact with the triangle rune between the top statues to lock in your answer. If done correctly, the chamber will reveal a hidden room with your reward. Wait for Ikora and Eris to finish speaking before you leave. You'll receive a unique shader and Season of the Witch weapons for completing this test.
