confirmed on Twitter yesterday that legendary guardians Saint-14 and Osiris are both gay and romantically involved, shocking absolutely no one that is even marginally engaged with the story. Unforꦑtunatel🗹y, not everyone is taking the "news" very well. Cries of retconning and agenda have been taking over my Twitter timeline this weekend as the gamers are reminded that gay people exist, even in Destiny. If you're someone that thinks the Saint-14/Osiris relationship is illegitimate, then you simply haven't been paying attention.
In a heartfelt thread on Twitter, Destiny 2 narrative designer Robert Brookes officially confirmed that Osiris and Saint-14 are romantically involved. In the thread, Brookes explains that, as a fan of Destiny, he always interpreted the relationship between them as a romanti🅺c one. When he became a developer on the game, he learned that his interpretation of the characters was correct and continued to write them that way.
Brookes describes them as private and nuanced characters and explains that there has never been a space within the game to formally confirm their identities. To avoid any association with the 🍸manipulative marketing technique of queerbaiting, Brookes felt that it was important to definitively state that these characters are gay.
Of course, if you are engaged with Destiny lore you already know this. With the 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:disappearance of Mercury, Osiris has moved to the Tower to be reunited with Saint-14. Through voice lines in Zavala's o🦂ffice, we learn this season that Saint-14 has been leaving messages for Osiris in his ship.
In the short story , r🎀eleased on Bungie's website at the beginning of this season, Saint-14 calls Osiris his "fiery bird."
The relationship between Saint-14 and Osiris has been made obvious this season, but to suggest this is something new or retconned is absurd. Osiris dedicated his life to changing the flow of time in order to rescue Saint-14, who had been killed by the Vex after fighting them for centuries in the Infinite Forest, himself on a mission to rescue Osiris. Saint and Osiris have both proven they would 🗹die for each other. That isn't unequivocal proof that they're gay, obviously, but it's evidence that their relationship is, at the very least, significant.
So no, this isn't the case of a new writer coming in with an agenda to turn your favorite characters gay. T🌼hough, even if that were the case, I don't think there would essentially be anything wrong with that. This is the first and only relationship that exists live in Destiny rather than in lore pages or comics. While there have been others mentioned in the past —even other gay relationships, like Anna Bray and Camrin — this is the only romantic relationship that exists between active NPC characters.
Their relationship 🤡makes both of these characters stronger by giving them relatable motivations and higher stakes to their choices. Some want to compare this to Soldier 76 from Overwatch or Gibraltar from Apex, 💞both characters that have been revealed to be gay through lore. I think Saint-14 and Osiris's relationship is a lot more important to the story than those examples, but in every case, it is a good thing. Representation in media matters. It matters greatly to the people that are being represented, and for everyone else, it's an indication that the game — and by extent, the community — is welcoming to all.
