Netflix subscribers in the UK will be able to watch 🅺Detective Pikachu and Sonic the Hedgehog later this month.
There has been a stigma attached to movies based on video games for a very long time, and it's probably justified. It can probably be traced back to the Super Mario movie from the early '90s. The film was about as far removed from a faithful adaptation from the games as it possibly could be. Fast forward almost 30 years and the movie industry has turned that ship around.
So much so that Ho🍸llywood is having another crack at moving Mario to the big screen. Don't panic, this time the movie will be animated and an all-star cast will 🌟be voicing familiar fꦦaces from the Mushroom Kingdom. It's still more than a year until the Mario movie hits theaters, but in the meantime, Netflix has you covered on the video game movies front.
ไDetective Pikachu and Sonic the Hedgehog will both be available to watch on Netflix in the UK before the end of this month. Detective Pikachu, featuring a Ryan Reynolܫds-voiced Pikachu, arrives on the platform on November 16. Sonic will speed onto the streaming service 11 days later on November 27. Both are partly responsible for flipping the opinion of video game movies in recent years.
Detective Pikachu is actually based on a lesser-known Pokemon spin-off game on the 3DS. The movie pulls from that while packing in as many Pokemon as it can, appealing to hardened trainers and also casual fans who might not have played the games for a number of years.
