This guide will showcase everything you need to know about Diablo 4's Paragon Board, explaining꧂ how it works, how to unlock it, how Glyphs and Gates work, and provide some tips on how to maximize this progression system.

A level cap increase, new Glyph options, and Legendary bonuses have made this system far more important. We've updated this guide to include these new additions and explain how to upgrade your Glyphs through the Pit endgame activity.

What Is The Paragon Board?

The Paragon Board serves as Diablo 4's post-campaign progression system. Similar to Diablo 3's Paragon system, a Paragon Board's purpose is to increase your build's overall power in small increments over time. As you earn XP past Level 60, you'll earn Paragon Points which can be spent to allocate passive bonuses on your Paragon Board. These range from stat increases to build-enabling passives that ri🎀val Legendary affixes.

Unlike Diablo 3, the Paragon system in Diablo 4 doesn't progress indefinitely. Builds can allocate up to 328 Paragon Board passives, earned by reaching Paragon Rank 300 and maximum renown across all regions. Paragon Boards are tied to specific characters, but your Paragon Rank is shared across all characters in the same realm. These boards can then be further augmented with Glyphs, socketable items that add or alter the passives provided by your board. In essence, the Paragon Board is a player-crafted passive tree that can be further augmented through Glyphs.

Unlocking The Paragon System

The Paragon Board unlocks upon reaching level 60. You can access your Paragon Board at any time by opening your skill tree and selecting the "Paragon" tab. Similar to Skill Points, Paragon Points are earned by leveling your character and increasing your renown with each region of Sanctuary. Every Paragon Rank you earn awards one Paragon Point. The final renown reward for each zone also graꦿnts four Paragon ꧃Points, totaling 20 points (24 with Vessel of Hatred ownership) when all regions are completed.

A maximum of 328 Paragon Points may be allocated on your Paragon Board. Y♏our Paragon Rank is also account-bound.

Each point you earn may be allocated onto your current Paragon Board. All classes start with a fairly similar board. You'll immediately notice the differ🎃ent rarities of ea😼ch node:

• Common: Provides +5 in a stat (Strength, Dexterity, Intelligence, or Willpower).
• Magic: Provides a damage, defense, or utility bonus.
• Rare: Provides two damage, defense, utility, or stat bonuses.

As you path upward, you'll come across magic and rare nodes that provide stronger, more noticeable bonuses than the default stat nodes. Reaching the end of your current board will unlock a Gate node, allowing you to attach another board to your current passive tree. The center of your starter board also comes with a Glyph socket, allo🔴wing you to add curated passive eff🐽ects or modify the stats provided by nearby stat nodes.

Using And Upgrading Glyphs

The center of your first Paragon Board will contain an empty Glyph socket. Glyphs are socketable passives that add or modify the stats of nearby Paragon nodes. Every Glyph you install will create an aura around itself, influencing everything within a set radius (three at base, five when fully upgraded). Allocated nodes within this radius will either gain a secondary effect or become stronger. For example, a Glyph that bu🦩ffs Intelligence will cause every nearby Intelligence node to provide a secondary, more potent effect in addition to granting Intelligence.

Glyphs can be generalized into three categories:

1. Attribute Glyphs: Nodes that increase your base attributes also grant a secondary bonus.
2. Rarity Glyphs: Common, Magic, or Rare nodes within the Glyph's radius are stronger.
3. Stat Magnitude Glyphs: Nodes within range gain a bonus to X and Y modifiers.

You'll also notice that each Glyph has a secondary and tertiary set of bonuses in its description. Secondary bonuses require you to hit an attribute threshold with that Glyph. For example, if a Glyph says that you're at 0/40 Intelligence, it's asking you to allocate 40 Intelligence within the ꦐGlyph's radius to activate its secondary bonus—in the above example, a critical damage multiplier from consecutive crits.

New to Vessel of Hatred is the introduction of tertiary stats, otherwise known as Legendary bonuses. When you upgrade a Glyph to Level 46, it will gain its final radius increase and a tertiary stat. This bonus is usually a multiplicative damage bonus, such as x8% more critical damage or non-physical damage. Unlike secondary bonuses, Legendary bonuses scale with Glyph rank.

Earning New Glyphs

Most players will own a handful Glyphs by default, but those aren't the only Glyphs available in Diablo 4. Slain monsters have a rare chance of dropping unowned Glyphs. Activities with high enemy density, notably Nightmare Dungeoဣns and Helltide, are y🥃our best farming spots for obtaining new Glyphs.

Upgrading Glyphs

Every Glyph you'll obtain will start with a base level that can be increased, buffing the Glyph's stat magnitudes and its effective radius on your Paragon Board. Glyphs may be upgraded at the end of every Pit run; they can no longer be upgraded through Nightmare Dungeons. Successfully completing a Pit dungeon will spawn a unique altar used for upgrading Glyphs. You'll get three upgrade attempts per Pit run, four if you b🔜eat the entire mission deathless.

Glyph Leveling

Glyphs r🅺eceive bonus upgrades if they're ten ranks under your current Pit tier. This makes levelin꧋g new Glyphs a little faster.

Conversely, Glyphs that are close to your current Pit tier are likely to fail their﷽ upgrade at🌌tempt. The closer it is to your current Pit level, the more likely the upgrade attempt will fail.

Each Glyph upgrade will slightly buff its listed effects. Rank 15 will upgrade the Glyph to a four-node radius, and Rank 45 upgrades it to a five-node radius. A Rank 45 Glyph will also gain access to its tertiary bonus. Leveling a Glyph gets increasingly more expensive, so be sure you're up🤡grading Glyphs that benefit your build.

You cannot respec Glyph XP.

Attaching Boards

At the end of every Paragon Board is a Gate, a unique node that connects multiple board pieces together. Allocating a Gate node will allow you to install one of eight new boardsꦕ onto your current Paragon Board. You'll be able to preview the board's contents, including node modifiers and pathing, before installation. Once a board is installed, you'll be able to allocate nodes within that board and unlock additional Gates.

Board Rotating

While previewing a new Paragon Board,🗹 you can rotate the new board to change your starting Gat﷽e. This is particularly useful if you plan on allocating a specific Magic, Rare, or Legendary node on the new board.

Each class has access to nine unique boards. Every attached board comes with one Glyph socket and a unique Legendary Node, providing a potent effect that is comparable to a Legendary affix. Boards tend to be themed around specific skills or build archetypes, so consider picking boards that synergize with your current skills and passives. You cannot equip the same board twice.

Paragon Board Tips

• Focus on one attribute. Scaling a single attribute makes it easier to activate Glyph secondary bonuses.
• Rotate your board. Some boards feature Legendary Nodes in corners or hard-to-reach places. Rotating your board can minimize the Paragon investment required to purchase these nodes.
• Reaching max renown with a region of Sanctuary grants four Paragon Points. You can earn up to 24 Paragon Points this way.
• Upgrade your Glyphs to Level 45 as soon as possible. This increases the Glyph's effective radius on your Paragon Board.
• You can respec Paragon nodes for a small Gold fee. If a Paragon Board has no allocated nodes, you can remove it and attach a new board type.
