Summary
- There are four big Sims games to watch: The Sims 5, Life by You, Paralives, InZoi
- Personally, I've got my eye on InZoi, but it doesn't seem like anyone else does
- And how does a free to play Sims game work, anyway?
The Sims is one of the most well-known video games on the planet, and a rare game that has burst outside of just being renowned in the gaming sphere or even just being a staple of nerd culture. Your parents have heard of The Sims. Your grandparents have heard of The Sims. The Sims is an institution. But The Sims is also a little stale. Modern audiences don't take so kindly to 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:the endless extra paid-for content, an𝔉d there is a feeling The Sims needs to evolve. The 𝐆future is wide open.
We know EA is developing The Sims 5 right now, but that's not the only game coming up on the horizon. For a long time, there has been The Sims and only The Sims. While other simulation genres, particularly farming, have grown overcrowded, the life sim stylings of The Sims have been left alone. But after waiting so long for a bus, several have come along at once - let's take a look at which of the upcoming Simslikes are best.
The Sims 5
The most obvious game to play after 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:The Sims 4 is The Sims 5. We don't know too much about it yet, but we know it will be the closest continuation of the direction The Sims is heading in. 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Currently known as Project Rene, it 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:will be free to play and is not supposed to replace The Sims 4 but to sit alongside it, with The Sims 4 to continue being supported post-Rene's launch.
We don't really know how this will work. It's possible to play older Sims games now, despite The Sims 4 existing. Is the coexistence just a marketing phrase to avoid angering heavily invested Sims 4 fans? We also know it will be trialled in early access for small groups, but have no idea when. It's The Sims, but perhaps not as we know it.
Life By You
Of all the non-Sims Simslikes, 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Life By You is 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:by far the closest relative. The Paradox game is being overseen by Rod Humble, who masterminded The Sims 2 & 3 as ‘head of Sims’. After leaving EA, he made Second Life, the closest a game has ever got to reaching the level of The Sims. Life By You is the third attempt at the same genre 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:which doesn't seem terrifically creative, bu🅺t does at least give Life By You some prestige.
While The Sims 5 is pushing The Sims forward into new territory, 168澳洲幸运💦5开奖网:Lifeඣ By You is more of a modernised throwback. The Sims 2 & 3 might be considered the glory years, and Life By You is aiming at ta🀅pping into what made this era great. Life By You isn't satisfied with being a throwback entirely though, and promises an open world with zero loading screens, more in-depth conversations, personalised quests, and more sophisticated city-building tools than any Sims game previously - it hits early access on June 4.
Paralives
1𒀰68澳洲幸运5开奖网:Paralives is the smallest project here. It's The Sims as an indie game, and that means it focuses its attention in very specific areas. Rather than reimagining The Sims as live-service or giving it a bigger scope than ever before, Paralives is more precise in the areas of The Sims it imꦡitates.
Paralives describes itself as a "doll house life simulation", putting emphasis on interior design similar to Animal Crossing: New Horizon's Happy Home Paradise DLC, and controlling a select handful of lives rather than a whole city. However, you can still venture out into the world to some select locations - it feels like a visual novel in which you create several characters and decorate the furnishings, and will be arriving in early access in 2025.
InZoi
InZoi has garnered the least attention of all these, but for me it's the most interesting of the games on the list. Made by PUBG developers Krafton, it boasts by far the most realistic aesthetic and a far more detailed character creator, although we don't have many other details to go off. While Life By You and Paralives seem to be trying to look like The Sims, InZoi is more content to be its own thing, which scores some points.
In a recently revealed roadmap, we learned that InZoi will have cars that can be driven in first and third person; ways to adjust a city's cleanliness and weather; group tasks for multiple Zois to do; and a Karma system that measures how all Zois interact, similar to an approval rating in companion-based RPGs. We didn't learn a release date or any hint of when InZoi might become available, but it seems the most committed to trying new ideas rather than riffing on what has worked for The Sims in the past, making it my most anticipated in this list by a distance.
