In 1999, Digimon Adventure debuted to Japanese and Western audiences alike as a slightly weirder alternative to the Pokémon craze.

Digimon's evolving monsters were clearly Pokémon-derived, but whereas the Pokémon series' flagship product is its video games, Digimon's TV series remained its premier offering. Also unlike Pokémon, newer Digimon series have attempted to appeal to the sense of nostalgia in the show's original fans, who are all now obviously quite a bit older. Digimon Adventure: is the latest iteration of the Digimon anime series, and is a reboot of the very first TV series set in the modern day (the biggest difference so far being that they have cell phones.) Now a new teaser for its upcoming episod𒁃es the return of the original series' fi💫rst big bad, Devimon.

In the prior Digimon Adventure, Devimon appeared eight episodes into the series. Whereas previous episod🐼es were more-or-less episodic stories, intended to highlight each of the main characters' Dܫigimon, Devimon was the first villain to remain for the course of a continuous story arc. That arc was cut somewhat short, however, as Devimon was defeated just five episodes later.

In the new trailer shared by Toei Animation, Devimon appears briefly with a dark and shadowy aura, suggesting that he will retain💫 his big bad status. Ogremon appears in the trailer as well, who was first introduced as a villain during the Devimon arc, but remained a recurring minor villain, Bowser Jr.-like, after the a🅷rc concluded.

Given the changes made so far to the original Digimon story, however, Devimon's role is anything but guaranteed to remain the same. The first three episodes of Digimon Adventure: laid the groundwork for the show's central conceits while adapting the story of Digimon Adventure: Our War Game, the second Digimon Adventure movie in Japan, and the second half of The Digimon Movie in the U.S. which takes place chronologically after the entirety of the original series. Dev🃏imon's story too could very well see significant change-ups in the same way.

Due to quarantine conditions in response to the coronavirus, Digimon Adventure: was put on hiatus shortly after its debut. Now that cases in Japan are declining and , Digimon Adventure:'s retur♛n is sched🍸uled for June 28, around which point we'll learn what this new-and-improved version of Devimon can do.
