Dinkum is a farm simulator game that has been popping off on Steam ever since its launch with Overwhelmingly Positive reviews. Just like any farming game, it features chopping trees, hunting, mining, fishing, catching animals using animal traps, and most importantly, plantation.
This game has a special mechanic to plant seeds that are quite different from any other game. In Dinkum, you can plant seeds for trees, bushes, fruits, and vegetables. There are a ton of Milestones in the game related to this activity that can help you get lots of currency required to acquire different licenses. Other than that, your products can be sold for a handsome amount of Dinks.
How To Plant Seeds In Dinkum
An advantage to having trees and fruits planted in a designated spot is that you can collect them whenever you want, and you don't have to make a trip to a faraway land to get a specific item. Planting a seed in Dinkum is a fairly simple process, but it has some requirements.
There are two methods that you can use to plant a seed in the game, and they require different residents. The first method requires you to have John in your world, who arrives on the second day no matter what. The second one needs a visit from Rayne to your world, which is RNG based.
First Method
Once you start the game, Fletch will ask you to build a visitor site near the temporary town hall. John will land on this site on the second day, and he'll bring a bunch of basic tools that you can buy. For this method, you will need to buy a Shovel from John. Here are all the steps to pla♐nting a⛦ seed using this:
- Acquire an Excavation License from Fletch. When you try to buy a Shovel from John, he will ask you to get the license first. This can be bought using an in-game currency that you can get by finishing Milestones and some tasks.
- Once you've bought the Shovel using your Dinks, the next thing you need to do is find a Seed by chopping trees. Fruits can be used as seeds themselves.
- Find a tile where you want to plant your seed and use the shovel on it by clicking the Left Mouse Button. This will make a hole in the ground and the dirt will be on your Shovel.
- Throw the seed in this hole by pressing Q when the white marker is on the required tile and then Left-Click on the spot again using a shovel.
After doing all this, your seed will be planted, and you need to wait for it to grow. You need to water the spot to take the seed to the next growth but if you don't have any means to do that, you'll have to wait for a rainy day.
Second Method
This is an easier and more sophisticated method to plant seeds that will actually give you the feeling of farming. Although, this method requires you to either have Rayne as a visitor or as one of the permanent residents in your town.
Once you've done enough tasks for John, you'll be able to unlock a deed to get John a permanent place. Once that is built, more visitors will come to your town at random. Rayne is one of these visitors,⛄ and she excels at farming. You can buy a Hoe, different seeds, and a Watering Can from her.
If you're lucky enough to get Rayne in your town early on, here are the steps to planting a seed using this method:
- Talk to Rayne and get to know more about her. Once you've had the starting dialogue, you can head over and buy a Hoe that is displayed on a table for 800 Dinks.
- Find the tile you want to plant your seed in. If you want to have a proper farm, it is a good idea to make the area ready before you start planting.
- Once you're on the tile, press the Right Mouse Button when you have your Hoe equipped to till the land. This will create a specific design on the respective tile.
- Next, you simply need to drop the seed on this tile similarly as before. Press Q when the white marker is on the tile you just tilled. Make sure you don't accidentally pick the seed up again.
- Equip your Hoe once again and right-click on the same tile to plant the seed.
Once the seed is planted, you can water it every day using a Watering Can you bought from Rayne. This will make the growth process much faster since you don't have to rely on the randomness of rain.
This method is definitely the better one if you want to plant a lot of seeds and take care of an actual farm. The only problem with it is that sometimes Rayne might not even visit your world for a long time. So, if she has set foot in your town, make sure you buy the required items from her if you can't make a permanent residence for her yet.
It is also recommended to put a fence around your farm to prevent any tr൲ouble from wild animals. The blueprint for a wooden fence c🌸an be unlocked early on in the game.
