Two of Disgaea's greatest strengths are its writing and its characterization. The games tell memorable stories filled with zany characters that you can't help but love and come to care for after using them in battle after battle, grinding for stats.
With six main entries in the series, there are many characters to choose from, with demons and angels and even cursed penguin-like mo𝓡nsters being mainstays. But which ones end up being the 🤪most compelling?
10 Tink
Tink is the comically abused friend/punching bag of Rozalin in Disgaea 2: Cursed Memories. There's a lot that makes him stand out, even amongst Disgaea characters. For one, he speaks with a gratuitous French accent entirely out of place in the universe. For another, he has a split personality.
Tink switches almost chameleon-like between an angry red form and a cowardly blue form, and this even has combat applications. On the battlefield, you can use his blue form to speed towards foes and then batter them down with the physically stronger red form. He's a fun character to witness and a fun unit to use.
9 Emizel
A character who holds the title of "The Grim Reaper" has no right to being as adorable as Emizel is, yet that is where we are. He got the job through nepotism, and it's only when he's painfully made aware of that fact that he joins up with the party to prove himself.
In battle, Emizel stands out as a mage that can cast spells of all three basic elements, and he's incredibly useful from the moment you get him until the last fights of the game. He also gets a cool scythe to use for some of his abilities, which only adds to his quality as a character.
8 Salvatore
There are few characters with as much self-confidence and pride as Salvatore (the Magnificent!) - she's a military leader with a mean streak, not afraid to ask the impossible of her subordinates in true comedic fashion emblematic of Disgaea.
She's one of many characters who 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:start as anta﷽gonists b🐷ut end up joining the party, and you'll be glad she did, thanks to her gigantic golden gun and her snappy dialogue. She's one of the highlights of Absence of Justice.
7 Axel
Fan-favorite and all-around dark horse, Axel is an enjoyable character. He's presented as a past-his-prime Dark Hero trying to claw back his fame with a television show and is often accompanied by his production team. Axel was so popular in his original appearance that the updated re-release of the game on the PSP included an all-new story with Axel as the lead, and he's been a recurring character ever since.
Axel is no less threatening on the battlefield for all his abilities as comic relief. He has some effect꧟ive lightning moves and can easily rival Adeౠll in terms of power levels when recruited for the first time.
6 🦩 Red Magnus
It might seem odd that a character so obsessed with fighting and muscle building would end up being the highlight of a game's roster, but with Red Magnus, it's the truth. He's a charming, hilarious addition to the team thanks to his ability to offset the more serious nature of the game's plot, making him feel like the heart of the party.
That's not to mention how effective he can be on the battlefield. His physical attacks are largely unmatched, and with the best axes, he can feel pretty unstoppable, especially against any enemies weak to fire attacks.
5 Laharl
The protagonist of the very first Disgaea game, Laharl is a stand-out character thanജks to being a compelling main character that manages to be hilarious y♔et eliciting some pathos. What seems to be a comedic aversion to affection and love turns out to be a sign of his tragic backstory in a nasty twist.
In battle, Laharl began a trend that the series essentially keeps with - the main character gets to be a physical powerhouse with oodles of usability. If he's not seen with a sword larger than he is, he's punching massive monsters with just gloves on his hands.
4 Rozalin
As the deuteragonist of the second game, Rozalin makes a huge impression. She's a hoity-toity, loud character with lots to say and is easily loved as a very entertaining thorn in Adell's side. Their 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:gro💃wi🌌ng relationship throughout the game is fantastic to watch, and the twists that you get to play thro🙈ugh at the end are very exciting.
Best of all, Rozalin's special moves show off her incredibly giant Gatling guns, which set her apart from any would-be heroines that she may resemble. Rozalin is not afraid to bring it.
3 Adell
In contrast to Laharl and many of Disgaea's other protagonists, who embrace villainy readily, Adell is the most heroic hero of the series. He sets out to valiantly defeat the evil Zenon with enthusiasm, and the game centers around his mission.
He complements Rozalin perfectly, with his close-range combat abilities not getting in the way of her gunfire and his more understated attitude contrasting well with her expressiveness. Their relationship is sustained through their appearances in future games' DLC, and it's a highlight of their character arcs.
2 Cerberus
Cerberus is hard to talk about without giving away huge swathes of Disgaea 6's overarching plot, but it's safe to say that he carves out a place in your heart from the very beginning of the game. He's presented as a disillusioned canine advisor to the protagonist, Zed.
What makes Cerberus so compelling a character is revealed through the game's plot, piece by piece. His past as a Super Sage becomes incredibly important with twists and reveals that put a spin on almost all o𝄹f his actions. He's a cute character with a mysterious past, and that makes for a great addition to the team.
1 Etna
Etna is the perfect foil to Laharl in the first Disgaea game, and their relationship is a fun, kooky one. 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:She constantly plots his downfall yet obviously cares for him. Her softer nature is more pronounced once she manages to gain back stolen memories, but she's still as ruthless as ever.
She has total mastery over spears in battle, and she's possibly one of the most competent units - at least in the first game. Her extended reach and high physical power make her a force to be reckoned with.
