During your time in the valley, you'll be able to perform many tasks to earn Star Coins and make the place look better. Some of these tasks allow you to have significantly higher rewards through the companion role system in the game.
How To Unlock Companion Roles In Disney Dreamlight Valley
There are numerous characters in the game, and you can unlock a companion role on almost all of them. You need to go through a couple of steps before you can assign a role to them, and they're as follows:
- Firstly, you need to unlock the character. Some characters can be unlocked by simply talking to them in the valley, while the others require a quest completion that will bring them back to the valley.
- The second step is to reach friendship two with these characters. You can talk to them every day and give them various featured/normal gifts to get this quickly. It doesn't take a lot of XP to get from level one to level two.
Once you've reached friendship level two with a character, they will have a section allowing you to choose a role for them after you get the friendship reward.
Ursula and Ariel are the two characters who cannot have a role assigned to them. This is because they have to stay in the water and can't follow you around while you do the tasks.
What Companion Roles Do
Once you've assigned a companion role to the character, you can get benefits from it based on your level of friendship, and the type of task. There are five types of tasks, and here's everything they provide:

Whenever you harvest a crop that you planted, the character with this task has a chance of dropping you an extra for the same crop. |

Whenever you successfully get a fish or Seaweed using your Royal Fishing Rod, the character with this task might give you one extra for the same item. |

Mining |
This task only works with the black rocks that are on the edges of every area. While mining these rocks, you will get multiple drops. The character with this task has a chance to drop the item that is dropped last when the rock is broken. |

Foraging |
Picking up wild crops found in the regions or picking up different fruits from the trees around the valley gives the character a chance to g꧂ive you on💟e extra. |

Digging |
When you dig any spot in the ground, there is a chance to get multiple items. The character with this task might drop a duplicate of the item you get. |
With a higher friendship level, the chance of dropping these extra items also increases for a certain character. Furthermore, you're required to hang out with the character to get the benefits from companion roles.
