Summary
- Ravensburger announced major errata for Bucky card in Disney Lorcana, increasing ink cost and removing ward keyword to balance gameplay.
- Changes aim to weaken Floodborn Discard decks dominance, as Bucky was integral to strategies that limited opponent's options.
- Errata in trading card games like Lorcana can be controversial, but are intended to maintain a fun and balanced gameplay environment.
Ravensburger has announced its largest errata for 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Disney Lorcana to date, taking a sledgehammer to one of the ga🐷me’s most oppressive cards.
First printed in Rise of the Floodborn, Bucky, Squirrel Squeak Tutor h𒅌as been hit with a huge nerf, functionally cha🐷nging how the card works with the upcoming Shimmering Skies set.
Errata is when a trading car🌺d game changes how a card works from its literal printed text. This is often used as a way to keep old cards up to date with current terminology, but can also be sparingly used♊ for the sake of balancing the game. Regardless of what the printed card reads, every copy of an errata’d card is treated as if it does the same thing.
The Changes
Announced through , Bucky, Squirrel Squeak Tutor is🙈 having three major changes. The first is it ink cost is being increased from two ink to three, meaning it’ll be arriving to the field about a turn later.
The second big change is the complete removal of Bucky’s ward keyword. Ward prevents a character from being chosen by your opponent fღor actions or abilities, which made Bucky very difficult to deal with.
Finally, Bucky’s discard ability is being changed. Instead of triggering whenever you play a Floodborn character through any means, it now only triggers when you shift it onto an existing character. This makes it a lot weaker, as it relies on you having other characters out in play to shift onto 𒁏for Bucky to be useful.
Are Errata The Best Idea?
These changes are all design🗹ed to make Bucky a worse card, as it has long been part of a large number of decks thanks to its easy ability to whittle down your opponent’s hand of any potential answers. Floodborn Discard decks have been especially dominant in the meta of late, with both Emerald/Steel and Emeralꦺd/Sapphire builds making use of the maximum four copies of Bucky allowed.
Talking about the errata, Ravensburger said that 🌟it is “not something we take lightly or want to do too often”, and that it is to “preserve a fun environment for the game”. It also stressed “please be understanding and helpful with those who may not follow changes”.
However, errata is a controversial tool in any TCG, as it means people will likely be playing with pieces they didn’t know were changed to such a huge extent. Outright bans are usually preferred, as it’s easier to🍸 explain to someone a card is banned than a card doesn’𓆉t do what it has printed on it.
In Magic: The Gathering, for example, changes like this are reserved solely for digital-only formats on 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:MTG Arena like Alchemy and Historic, where cards in players’ collections can easily be changed. The last time a this big change occurred was back in 2020, when emergency changes to 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:the companion mechanic required wiওdespread erratas to a number of cards.
This change will take effect from August 9, 2024, the same day Shimmering Skies hits local game stores. Ravensburger has confirmed that it’ll be making up-✨to-date versions of Bucky available via reprints “later thi꧒s year”, and future printings will follow the new, errata’d text.
