It’s often easy to compare one card game to another, especially if they have similar mechanics. Disney’s latest addition to the trading card genre, Lorcana, brings some of everyone’s favorite characters from the🌌 company’s expansive universe in a new adventure.
Mechanically speaking, Lorcana feels very similar to another popular trading card game, 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Magic: The Gathering. Having been around for more than 30 years, Magic has had plenty of time to carve out a trail for Lorcana to follow. Lorcana in turn, is creati🐟ng new and exciting twists on traditional mechanics and rules that players might expect from a ꧋card game.
6 Inkwell Vs Lands 🌠 ♋
One of the first ways Lorcana se🍷ts itself apart from Magic is the way you use resources. In Magic, you have to balance your deck building with lands, the cards you use to cast your spells as the main resource in the game. In Lorcana, however, there are no dedicated cards to generate resources like in Magic.
Instead, you can use any card that the round Inkwell icon around the hexagonal casting cost as ink. Not every card in Lorcana has an Inkwell icon, but the majority of them do. Cards with an Inkwell icon on them can also be played as their normal card if you choose not to place them into your inkwell. This ability to pick and choose how you want to play cards, as either a resource or as🦩 their original card, very rarely gives you a bad draw at any point in a game.
5 Unique🦩 Win C🌺onditions
Generally speaking, m🎐ost trading card games involve dealing damage to an opponent to reduce their life total, or an equivalent, to eventually win the game. Lorcana takes a different approach on this by having players aim to get to 20 Lore, a unique resource that is indicated by little diamond-like icons in a charac♌ter’s text box.
Most characters in Lorcana can quest for Lore, exerting (or tapping for Magic players) the character to gain Lore equal to the number of Lore icons on the card. You can still engage in combat in Lorcana, called challenging, by dealing damage to characters directly, not a single life total. Other than that, Lorcana matches can still end if one player run🗹s out of cards in their deck and goes to draw a card, but gathering Lore is the main way so far.
4 No🐼 Instant Speed Effects
One of the biggest differences between Lorcana and Magic is the timing speed of all actions you do in the game. In Magic, there are spells you can cast in response to your opponent’s spells, and abilities, and betwee✤n phases of the game. Lorcana, however, doesn’t let you interact with your o𝓀pponent’s cards this way.
Instead, you have to pay attention to what your opponent can possibly do on their turn and try and play around with potential actions they could take. Maybe you don&🧔rsquo;t quest on your turn since your opponent has a powerful character that could take out your best card. As you can’t use abilities of items or characters on your opponent’s turn either, make sure you do everything you think is best before passing the turn.
3 Deck Color Limitation♔s
Magic: The Gathering gives you complete freedom to use whatever card you want in your deck. Various formats might have restrictions on what is legal in the format, but genera𒐪lly, if you want to play a five-color deck with all your favorite cards, you can.
Lorcana deviates from this in that you can only have a 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:maximum of ♌two ink colors in a single꧙ deck. So if you want to play 🎃with every Princess card in the game, you’re out of luck, but that is൩n’t necessarily a bad thing. Tons of innovation come with restrictions like these, giving you plenty of color combinations to experiment with.
2 Combat Is Wildly Different ꧋
Another major change that players will recognize almost immediately is that combat is not done all at once, and inste𒁃ad happens in whatever order you want. Since your combat is considered an action, you can either choose to challenge an opponent’s character or have your character go on a quest to earn some Lore.
This lets you do some tricky things, including challenging an opponent’s character, using an 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:🍌Action or Item card to heal them of their damage, and then another card 🌸to untap them, and have your character challenge again.
1 🤪 Mulligan Rules
Magic players have had to deal with a few different ways to mulligan their hands over the years, but have since settled on what is known as the “London” mulligan.ꦍ This method involves you shuffling your hand back into your deck, drawing a new hand equ🥀al to their starting hand size, and then putting one card back on the bottom of you deck for each mulligan you chose to perform.
Lorcana instead le🍒ts you put any number of cards from your hand that you don’t want to keep on the bottom of your deck and then you draw back up to seven cards. Afterward, you shuffle your deck and proceed to the game. You only get one mulligan per game so make sure you’re keeping cards that can be used in your Inkwell and have a lower cost, unless there’s a key component in your hand.
