As it were, a Star Wars sequel retconning would undermine all of the brilliant and hard work put into these three films. Say what you will about the final product, but there's no denying that the people involved in the making of these three Star Wars sequels put their heart and soul into their creation. This is not only in reference to the main players, like the actors, writers, and directors, but also the special effects teams, sound department, editors, and so many more behind the curtain. With Disney even considering retconning these films, it feels extremely heartless and baseless to the actual fans on the production side who attempted their very best at delivering a Star Wars experience unlike any other.
The Prequels Led To Greatness
Although the Prequel trilogy may have sparked many instances of criticism, main among them being Jar Jar Binks - which George Lucas himself retconned from being the main - they did lead to unforgettable pieces of Star Wars content. The animated Clone Wars is a perfect example, as it not only shed more light on the events that occur between the second and third episodes but likewise offers more backstory and nuance toไ an ever-evolving tale centered on this cosmic For𝔉ce and the Skywalker name.
Look no further than Disney's introduction of The Mandalorian, as well as the highly-praised culmination to the aforementioned Clone Wars series. Well-developed Star Wars sequel tales focusing on Finn's underlying Force sensitivity, Poe's new position as acting general of the Resis💧tance, and Rey Skywalker's future on Tattoine could be priceless adaptations that would be impossible i🔜f these movies were to be erased.
In fairness, the sequel trilogy is not without a multitude of issues but should this entail a complete canon overwrite? Absolutely not. Disney's Star Wars sequels are most certainly here to stay and although not every fan may appreciate this, we can all at least appreciate the fact that more Star Wars content exists.
