The developers have that there is some basic controller support avꦓailable for the game, but it really can best be described as bare bones, and for most players will not be worth using, as there will not be any kind of aim assist.
No plans for aim assist effectively limits PC users to using their keyboard and mouse for the better precision and speed compared to that of a console controller. Even if a player has excellent aim on the controller, they are limited in how quickly they can turn ♔to faꦍce an incoming threat, and snapping is out of the question as well.
This deliberate design choice should not come as a surprise to players, especially when considering the way that VALORANT has been advertised. This is supposed to be the next major competitive game that♔ rewards high skill and precision and adding in aim assist is not conducive with that message.
Recently Fortnite players have found themselves frustrated by the way that cross play and aim assist can make games feel disjointed in terms of skill between players, and that is not something Riot Games would want VALORANT users to experience.
For now, VALORANT is only planned as a PC release, but depending on its success it would not be surprising to see the game rolled out to consoles. Even then, the design choice may remain not to implement any kind of aim assist because the core spirit of the game is to reward skilled players with deadly aim and fast refl♛exes, and this would keep everyone on an even playing field.
There will certainly be a way to use your favorite controller in VALORANT, either through limited official support in the client, or through third party remapping software like . However, outside of messing around, just because there is a way to use a controller does not mean that players should. While it would be fascinating to see a top ranked player in the world use a controller exclusively over a keyboard and mouse in VALORANT, it’s simply unrealistic for that to occur.
