As expected, that final fight was appropriately epic, forcing players to use basically every skill and weapon in their arsenal. And even as the credits rolled over what is currently billed as the final chapter of the game, players can't help but wonder what it means for the Doom series going forward. The Ancient Gods Part 2 might have capped off the adventure that started back in Doom (2016), but it also leaves a few cracks open for future games to build upon. We'll be looking at a few of these, some of which directly reference the events of the base game and story DLCs, so consider this a spoiler warning.

6 ﷽ Unexpꦦlored Backstory

The Doom Slayer staring down a host of divine beings in Doom Eternal

Doom Eternal had done a good job of 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:bridging the gap between the classic Doom games and the more recent ones. And the latest DLC takes that even furt𝔉her by exploring certain key aspects of its overall lore, like the true origin of hell and its unholy denizens.

Except there is still quite a lot of backstory left to the imagination. Take the main character for example. So we know that the Doom Slayer had once owned a rabbit❀ called Daisy, but we never get to learn much more about the character's early life in Ancient Gods Part 2. In fact,🐻 the character can be considered pretty one-note throughout the campaign, with his desire to rip and tear through anything that moves. This is just one area of the game the developers can choose to flesh out in a potential sequel.

5 ♛ Gameplay Tweaks

The Ancient Gods Part 1 was renowned for its difficulty. It significantly upped the challenge from what players were used to in the base game, requiring lightning-fast reflexes to succeed. But f🦹or The Ancient Gods Part 2, it would appear that the developers have found a sweet middle ground between the challenge offered in the base gamꦺe and the additional challenge of the first DLC.

Most of that can bꦬe attributed to small tweaks made to the gameplay, like having the icons for the Doom Slayer's abilities visible on the crosshair, or the Super Shotgun's Meat Hook which can now be used for more effective traversal. These are all welcome additions that also signal what direction the developers might ch🅰oose to take the series in the next game.

4 𒁏 The Sentinel Hammer

The Sentinel Hammer in Doom Eternal - The Ancient Gods Part 2

Early on in the campaign, the Doom Slayer is given a weapon called The Sentinel Hammer. Much like the Crucible from the 2016 game, this melee weapon lets players one-hit weaker enemie⛎s that get caught in its area of effect while staggering stronger foes and leaving them open to further attacks.

The weapon also forces ene🐼mies to drop more ammo and health than they typically would, making its use an effective part of the player🌃's overall strategy. It is a mechanic that works so well that it now feels so integral to the Doom Slayer's moveset, and one that would need to be replicated in future games.

3 The Ni𒁏g🅠ht Sentinels

The Night Sentinels in Doom Eternal - The Ancient Gods Part 2

While the base game had established that the Doom Slayer was the sole surviving Night Sentinel (an ancient caste of warriors from Argent D'Nur), the Ancient Gods Part 2 reveals tha꧟t there were still a number of sentinels living in hiding after the forces of hell had invaded their planet.

They would in fact later join him on his assault of Immora at the end of the game, adding to the overall spectacle of that final c🎃onfrontation. But how exactly had these sentinels survived for so long on Argenta under the rule of the demons, and what would they do next now that the demons have been vanquished? These are two questions that need to be explored in a future Doom game.

2 😼 The True Father ♌

Davoth in Doom Eternal - The Ancient Gods Part 2

According to Doom lore, the Father was the divine entity responsible for all creation. He was believed by the Makyrs to have created both their home realm of Urdak, as well as a higher realm called Jekkad. He'd placed the latter under the care of Davoth, t𒉰he god who would ultimately become𓃲 the Dark Lord.

But during , the Doom Slayer learns that Davoth was in fact the true Father, who had been betrayed by an usurper that would go on to take the title for himself. That betrayal had led to the transformation of Jekkad into hell, its people becoming the various demons the Doom Slayer would later encounter🐽. The twist not only filled in a pivotal part of Doom lore, but also introduces the possibility of exploring that part in greater detail in a future Doom game.

1 𓆏 The Ending𒈔

A picture depicting the climactic battle in Doom Eternal - The Ancient Gods Part 2

The ending of Ancient Gods Part 2 is a direct callback to the very beginning of Doom (2016), bringing the whole thing full circle. The 2016 game began with the Doom Slayer emerging from 𝐆a sarcophagus after what looked like a lengthy hibernation. This time around, he is seen being put into another one by the seraphs, having defeated the Dark Lord and vanquished all the demons.

But contrary to how it looks, this does not necessarily signal the end for the Doom Slayer. This could either open the door for a new sentinel to🎀 step in and take up the mantle in the next game, or merely suggest that the current Doom Slayer will be fully rested and ready to rip and te🌟ar whenever a new threat rears its ugly head.
