One of the most important characters of the modern 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Doom duology, aside from the Doom Slayer himself, is Dr. Samuel Hayden, Chairman of the UAC and an advocate and researcher of Argent Energy. Hayden's voice is the first the Slayer hears upon his awakening on Mars, and it's Hayden that guides him toward repelling the demonic invasion.
However, Hayden isn't just a scientist's brain in a seven-foot-tall robot body. His role in the overall chronology of Doom's story dates far back, before even the Slayer's time. Let's trace the blood back to determine who, exactly, Dr. Samuel Hayden is, and perhaps who he isn't. Please note that we will be getting into spoilers for both Doom (2016) and Doom Eternal.
Samur Maykr
Before there was Samuel Hayden, before there was the Slayer, and before there was much of anything, there were the Maykr Angels. The Maykr are an ancient race of cosmic entities, created by an overseer deity known only as The Father. Amongst the Maykr Angels were a select few known as the Seraphim, those who aided The Father directly with his experiments and creations. One of those Seraphim, and The Father's closest advisor, was an Angel named Samur Maykr.
Samur played a direct role in the defeat of the Dark Lord, sealing his essence into a Life Orb. However, as the Dark Lord was a creation of The Father, the deity couldn't bear to see him destroyed entirely, and instead, choose to seal both the Dark Lord and himself away to distance himself from the physical plane. The Father ordered Samur to hide his essence in a completely unreachable location in case Jekkad (the realm that would ultimately become Hell) began showing dangerous signs. While Samur did his duty, the absence of The Father left a power gap in the Maykrs' society, forcing them to rely on Argent Energy from Hell to sustain themselves.
Meeting The Slayer
Later on, during the war between the Night Sentinels and Hell, Samur stumbled upon a certain Marine who had managed to escape Hell's confines and join the Night Sentinels. Seeing his combat skills and 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:bottomless hatred of demonkind, Samur decided to bless him with the power of the Maykrs' Divinity Machine, transforming him into the 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:supernaturally-powerful warrior that would come to be known as th💯e Doom Slayer. Doing this not only helped win the war for the Night Sentinels but gave Samur a powerful anti-demon weapon he could use later𒁃.
However, due to his act of hiding The Father's essence and using the Divinity Machine, Samur was branded a heretic working against the leader of the Maykrs, the Khan Maykr. He was exiled from the Maykr homeworld and sent to wander the cosmos, where he eventually came upon a planet named Earth.
Growing Up Hayden
Seeing an opportunity to continue his gambit, Samur found a human family on Earth and bonded his consciousness to their newborn son, Samuel. Samuel's family, the Haydens, were known worldwide as a prodigious and affluent family, which gave Samuel access to all of the resources he could ever need. In his adult years, he quickly established himself as a well-known philanthropist and genius academic. These efforts lead to his appointment to the Global Science Council, which in turn led to his recruitment by the Union Aerospace Corporation for research on Mars.
Of course, when the portal to Hell was discovered on Mars, Samuel, being a Seraphim in disguise, already knew what humanity had on its hands. After presenting the potential of Hell-sourced Argent Energy to the UN, he quickly became the chairman of the UAC and began construction of the first Argent Tower. Samuel hit a small speed bump when he was diagnosed with terminal brain cancer, but this was easily remedied by transplanting most of his brain into a robotic frame. Not only did this frame make him virtually impervious to physical harm, but as a machine, he could enter and explore the r▨ealms of Hell, something he could not do as either a human or a Seraphim.
The Demon Invasion
Unfortunately, not every member of the UAC was as resistant to Hell's temptation as Samuel. One of his colleagues, Olivia Pierce, developed a fanatical obsession with the realm and began quietly recruiting numerous UAC personnel into a private cult. Meanwhile, Samuel uncovered the Slayer on an expedition in Hell, sealed him into a casket, and took custody of him as his ace in the hole. He would need to use that ace promptly, as Pierce struck a deal with a Hell Priest to bring about a demon incursion.
Samuel released the Slayer from his casket and guided him through the UAC's facility to fight back the demons and kill Pierce. More importantly, he had the Slayer retrieve the Crucible, an artifact capable of near-limitless Argent Energy generation. After the demons were repelled from Mars, Samuel took the Crucible and teleported the Slayer away to prevent him from destroying it. He knew that more demon invasions would be coming and that Argent Energy would be necessary to fight them off.
Earth Under Siege
As expected, demons began invading Earth, but they were met with resistance from Samuel and the remnants of the UAC, reformed as the Armored Response Coalition. With the power of the Crucible and the backing of the Earth's governments, Samuel fought valiantly against the demons but was ultimately killed in combat. His remains were salvaged by the ARC with his head intact, but his consciousness had gone dormant due to his body's highly-advanced technology.
Later, when the Slayer returned to Earth and began his personal crusade against Hell, he co-opted Samuel's remains from the ARC and hooked them up to the mainframe of his Fortress of Doom, reviving Samuel's consciousness. With Samuel's guidance, the Slayer continued to battle the demons, ultimately coming across the true source of Argent Energy: a tortured mix of Hell energy, Sentinel souls, and human souls. Samuel deemed the energy an abomination and had the Slayer destroy it, putting him at odds with his former people, the Maykrs, though even they ultimately fell at the Slayer's hands.
The Seraphim Returns
With the source of Argent Energy destroyed, Samuel knew that the demons would attempt to seize the Maykrs' realm to restart their invasion. To give the Slayer a fighting chance, Samuel would need to return to his original guise as Samur. With the Slayer's help, his consciousness was returned to his original body, housed in the UAC's Atlantica Facility. As a Maykr once again, Samur instructed the Slayer to retrieve The Father's essence from its hiding spot in the Blood Swamps of Hell, as it would only be with his help that they could fight back the demons and prevent the revival of the Dark Lord.
When the Slayer found The Father's essence, however, he did something Samur did not expect: he destroyed it to ensure The Father could not meddle. The Slayer intended to revive the Dark Lord himself so he could do what The Father never could and kill him properly. Samur attempted to stop him, but without either The Father's essence or Argent Energy, his Maykr body began to break down into 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:a monstrous form. He attempted to fight the Slayer like this but ultimately lost. However, before the Slayer could finish him off, he was spirited away by a brief appearance by The Father, who deciꦜded it was time to let things reach their natural conclusion꧅.
Samur's current whereabouts are unknown, though he is presumed to still be alive. In both his life as a Seraphim and as a human-then-cyborg, Samur seemed to be playing the long game in the interest of serving The Father, as well as doing what he could to keep the works of Hell, the UAC, and even his own people in check. Unfortunately, even one as powerful and intelligent as Samur could not halt the sheer unstoppable forces of Hell and the Doom Slayer from colliding, no matter his master's wishes.
