Dorfromantik is a fun indie game that asks you to build up a world using hexagonal puzzle pieces. You'll spend your time perfecting your world-building technique so that the little farms, cities, forests, and more are thriving in harmony.
Though the world may seem bland and same-y at first, there are actually tons of special tiles to unlock that allow you to spice up the map! 🥀This article details how to get all of those by completing the in-game challenges.
How To Unlock New Tiles And Tile Skins
New tiles in Dorfromantik are unlocked by completing the game's various challenges. Those challenges can be reviewed under the 'Rewards' section of the menu. Each challenge has a different tile associated with it. As a general rule, you unlock the new tile to appear in your games the first time you complete the challenge.
After that, you'll be able to work towards harder versions of that same challenge, and your reward will be new skins for whatever tile you unlocked the first time. Skins, though they also seem to match a particular biome, are actually separate. A tile's new skin may change the features that appear on the tile or customize the coloring that can appear randomly in any biome.
How To Unlock New Challenges
When you start Dorfromantik, you'll have a set number of challenges already unlocked. To get more (and, by extension, more tiles), you'll need to complete quests in-game.
While playing, keep an eye out for tile outlines in the distance (as shown above) because those denote a special quest you can reach. Once you've attached enough tiles to connect to this outline, it will pop into existence with the quest attached. On Nintendo Switch, they're helpfully noted with a little crown. Upon finishing that associated quest, you'll unlock a brand-new challenge.
