There’s a crazy amount of heroes already available in . Chances are if you have a particular play style, Dota 2 will have a hero that matches up with you perfectly. And now another hero has be⛄en added to the pile, bringing the hero count up to a staggering 11🐟6.

Mars is the newest hero to be added to the ever-growing MOBA. Mars is the latest Dota 2 hero since Grimstroke, who joined the game b♓ack in August 2018. He’s listed as a Strength hero and will have a heavy emphasis on melee combat. Mars has been teased for quite some time now. In fact when Grimstroke released, around the same time and was said to be due out 💝in the winter.

Mars is called the “God Of War,” which makes sense as Mars is the Roman god of war (Ares was of course the Greek god of war, and Kratos came much much later). It’s not the first time that an ancient god from history has been used as the basis for a new  Dota character, as Zeus is a ꧒character that’s been in the game for quite some time.

His backstory also seems pretty similar to the Mars of history. In the on the Dota 2 website, Mars is described as the “first son of heaven,” and as for his extracurricular activities he “spent a long existence waging endless war, and saw countless more crusades waged in his old name.” Sounds like a god of war alright. Now it seems he’s grown tired of endless battles and wants to take over the world of Dota.

As for his abilities, Mars has a variety of melee attacks at his disposal. His spear, aptly named the Spear Of Mars, can be thrown and will skewer the first hero it hits. The skewered hero is then pushed back and if he/she/it hits a wall or tree of some kind it will be impaled. He also has a massive shield which can used to block damage from the front or side, or used for the move God’s Rebuke which smashes and knocks back other heroes. Finally Mars can summon some undead soldiers to create 🐓the Arena Of Blood, which will attack heroes caught inside of it, and block damage from heroes outside of it.

It will be interesting to see how Mars changes up the game. Dota 2’s hero rosꦗter is now absolutely massive, and w🃏ill probably only continue to grow. No more new content has announced or hinted at yet, but it wouldn’t be surprising to hear something about a new hero some time before the next Invitational.
