A Dota 2 pro is threatening to boycott a major tournament next month unless Valve addresses the racist comments of another pro player during a recent match༺.
Alexei “Solo” Berezin, a professional Dota 2 player for team Virtus Pro, is threatening to skip next month’s Epicenter Major tournament unless Valve officially condemns the statements made by Sébastien “7ckngMad” Debs (also known as Ceb) of team OG during a recent Dota 2 match.
The story initially begins on Reddit where Debs statements were made public by a Russian Dota 2🀅 player. In it, the original poster explains tha𒁏t they got into an in-game altercation with Debs during the match that resulted in Debs making highly charged and racist statements against Russians, including calling them “third-world dogs” and they would "sell their mother for MMR."
You can read those stateme🍌nts in screenshots on the .
to the post by saying that the original poster exhibited “very toxic and game-ruining behavior,” and responded with his own toxic comments in retaliation. Both the original poster and a💟nother player named Nyx were known to be Russian, so it was the simplest grouping Debs could make.
He admits that he lost his temper during the match and apologized, saying he set a bad example for the rest of the Dota 2 community. That, however, wasn’t enough for Berezin. I🐓n a , Berezin (who is Russian) condemned the comments ༺and said there was simply no excuse for that kind of behavior from a pro player.
"I won’t be participating at the upcoming Epicenter Major that will be played in my h🌺ome country unless Valve openly speaks about this case and ensures consistency and transparency when it comes to treating racism in our game," Berezin concluded.
Valve has 💙yet to offer an official response to the situation. Epicenter Major is scheduled to take place the weekend of June 22nd in CSKA Arena in Moscow, Russia.
