The Hero of Ferelden (also sometimes called simply the Warden) was the first protagonist in the 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Dragon Age series. Their story was wrapped up in a nice, neat bow by the en𒐪d of Dragon Age: Origins, but some 🦩fans have been clamoring to see them return anyway.
Dragon Age lore is deep and nuanced, so you might not be fully caught up on what the Hero of Ferelden has been up to since the Battle of Denerim. This article outlines all the possible fates that the Hero might have by the time of the last game, 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Dragon Age: Inquisition.
Possible Fates At The End Of Dragon Age Origins
Based on the epilogue of Dragon Age Origins, the Hero of Ferelden could have had one of six general fates. The game gets much more specific based on what your Hero's race, class, background, and gender were (among other things), but all that minutia still falls under one of these six umbrellas:

Involvement In Dragon Age 2
The Hero of Ferelden doesn't appear in Dragon Age 2 themselves but is alluded to on occasion.
If Alistair is alive, he has three possible fates after Dragon Age: Origins: a drunk, a Grey Warden, or the King of Ferelden. Regardless of which🐷 he is, you will see him somewhere in Dragon Age 2 a♏nd he may mention the Warden in passing, depending on their fate.
Otherwise, the Hero is discussed at the end of the game if they are still alive. By the time the credits are about to roll for Dragon Age 2, you've learned that Cassandra, who has been interrogating Varric, was looking for Hawke to lead a large cause (the Inquisition). It's revealed that Cassandra and Leliana had originally pegged the Hero to lead the Inquisition, but that they disappeared in 9:40 Dragon without a trace.
Involvement In Dragon Age: Inquisition
A Letter From The Hero Of Ferelden
If the Hero of Ferelden is alive in any way, it is revealed that they have left Ferelden to search for a cure for the Calling. You can contact them through a War Table operation called 'Contact Hero of Ferelden.'
You can get the operation in one of two ways:
- Complete the quest 'Here Lies the Abyss,' then talk to Leliana or Morrigan.
- If Alistair is alive, still a Grey Warden, and was romanced by the Hero, talk to him before completing the quest 'Here Lies the Abyss.'
Completing the operation will earn you some small rewards and a letter written to you personally by the Hero of Ferelden. The letter you receive details what the Hero is doing and that they have sent gifts along, too. Parts of it are personalized based on their choices and the Inquisitor's identity:
- If the Hero remained with the Wardens or became a Chancellor, they will talk about their own task searching for a cure and express that they have limited 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:knowledge about the darkspawn due to the necessity of on-the-job learning when they became a Warden. They also note that, if they come across something useful, they will send it to the Inquisition.
- If the Hero is King, Queen, or Princess-Consort of Ferelden, they will say much of the same as if they remained a Warden or became a Chancellor, but will also express a desire to leave and help the Inquisition in-person. However, they say that they need to complete their own journey to return to their King/Queen.
- If the Hero romanced Leliana, they will include a personal letter for her in their letter to the Inquisitor and vouch for her abilities. They also emphasize how important her faith is to her and ask the Inquisitor to guide her towards "the light."
- If the Hero romanced Alistair and Alistair is still a warden, she will include a personal letter for him in their letter to the Inquisitor and vouch for his abilities. She also says that she does not want to rid herself of the Calling only to live the rest of her life without him.
- If the Hero romanced Morrigan and the quest 'Wicked Eyes and Wicked Hearts' has been completed, he will include a personal letter for her and Kieran in his letter to the Inquisitor. He will also vouch for Morrigan's abilities and implore the Inquisitor to take care of his family.
- If the Hero romanced Zevran, they will mention that Zevran is with them.
- If the Inquisitor is an elf and the Hero is an elf with the Dalish background, the Hero acknowledges how hard the human world is for elves and offers support, citing Mythal and Andruil.
- If the Inquisitor is a dwarf and the Hero is a dwarf (of any background), the Hero acknowledges that dwarves are often overlooked but insists that the Inquisitor will do the dwarven people proud.
Other Small Mentions Of The Hero
The Hero's letter is their main contribution to the Dragon Age: Inquisition story, but their name can crop up in other places. Here are a few:
- If the Hero was a female mage, Cullen can comment that he used to have a crush on her when he worked in Ferelden's Circle of Magi, but that he embarrassed himself (referring to when the Hero returns to the Circle and finds Cullen trapped).
-
If the Hero was in a romance with Leliana...
- ... and Leliana becomes the next Divine, they continue the relationship and Leliana eventually decrees that it is no longer forbidden for members of the Chantry to be in relationships.
- ... and Leliana is not the next Divine, they are still in a relationship, but usually long-distance. They occasionally meet at Leliana's house on the Waking Sea.
-
If the Hero was a dwarf and is still alive, it is noted that a statue was built for them.
-
If Behlen was made king...
- ... and the Hero was a dwarf noble, Behlen builds a grandiose, expensive statue of the Hero, who has now been declared a Paragon, in the Hall of Heroes. When the Hero disappeared, Behlen began to search for them.
- ... and the Hero was a dwarf commoner, the Hero's sister, Rica, becomes Behlen's official wife instead of just a concubine. Rather than putting up a statue of the Hero in the Hall of Heroes, as is conventional, Behlen puts it up in front of his palace, in honor of his wife.
- If the Hero was a dwarf of any background and Harrowmont was made king in Orzammar, Harrowmont builds a statue for the Hero but it is notably smaller than others in the Hall of Heroes, causing some dwarves to accuse Harrowmont of cutting costs. When the Hero disappeared, Harrowmont declared them dead.
-
If Behlen was made king...
- Solas may mention that he dreamed about the events at Ostagar and watched the Hero lighting the signal fire.
- If Alistair is alive and a Grey Warden, in an ambient dialogue between Cassandra and Blackwall, Cassandra will tell Blackwall that Alistair spoke highly of him. Blackwall seems surprised, and Cassandra says that Blackwall knew Alistair and the Hero's mentor, Duncan. Of course, that means that the man who Blackwall took his identity from knew Duncan, not Tom Rainier. Blackwall catches himself and Cassandra asks what Duncan was like, to which Blackwall praises and says Duncan was the kind of person even a great man like Alistair could look up to.
- Over the War Table, Leliana and Cullen may talk about the Hero.
Will The Hero Of Ferelden Be In Dragon Age: Dreadwolf?
It's really tough to predict whether the Hero of Ferelden (if they are alive) will be a part of the story in 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Dragon Age: Dreadwolf. Mentioning that the Hero is searching for a cure to the Calling is clearly deliberate, and remains unresolved in Dragon Age: Inquisition and its DLCs. It's possible that the Hero's research will be important to the plot of the next game.
We can at least say that the Hero will probably not appear in the game in person. In , Mike Laidlaw said that they didn't include the Hero in Dragon Age: Inquisition because it would have meant assigning a voice to that character. By doing so, Laidlaw and his team felt that hiring a voice actor would have ripped the personal touch away from the player's character, and they couldn't guarantee everyone was going to connect with the voice they went with. Laidlaw left BioWare and founded a new studio in 2020. It's not impossible that the new team working on Dreadwolf might decide to include the Warden, but you probably shouldn't hold your breath.
