Despite being the "big bad" of the latest installment, Solas has his own goals that just so happen to be incompatible with the player character's goals. Those who romanced him well remember moments where his wry smile melted their hearts. But ♚they also know all too well the moments that made them want to punch him. Which moments stood out the most to fans?

10 Melted ꩵHearts: When He Stayed By The Inquisitor’s Side After The Breach 🌄

Ignore for just a moment that Solas used Corpheus to💎 power the orb and, essentially, caused the Breach to open.

When he first appears wiꦰth Varric 🧸fighting off demons, he seems like an innocent enough Elven apostate mage. He mentions that he stayed by the Inquisitor’s side to ensure their recovery after forces found them in the destruction of the Conclave. His willingness to offer aid and intelligence immediately endears the player to him. Or, at the least, it establishes his intentions (so it seems). It’s a shame that his magnanimity was a façade to protect his “investment”: the orb.

9 ꦫ Broke Hearts: When We Found Out The Orb Was His

image of Inquisitor from Dragon Age: Inquisition holding the Elven orb

Solas originally talks about the orb being of Elven origin after Corypheus’ attack on Haven and the Inquisitor’s miraculous recovery. He waxes intellectual about it, revealing all kinds of information that seems suspicious for just an aposta🌞te to know.

Solas later reveals that the orb is the “Orb of Fen’Harel” and only he could wield it without dying. At the end of Trespasser, he uses magi🐎c to delay its effects on the Inquisitor, but even he says he cannot do anything to fix it. So if players romanced him, they lose their love interest and their a🐼rm due to the orb. Neat.

8 Melted Hearts: Standing Up For His Spirit Friend In The Exalted Plains 🐟

Every 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:companion in Dragon Age has a personal quest that affects their approval rating for the player character. The group traveled to the Exalted Plains (168澳洲幸运5开奖网:one of three Dales locations) for Solas. The Inquisitor could choose to help him save his spirit friend or straight up kill the spirit, angering♛ Solas.

But until this point, Solas has not displayed very strong emotions. When his friend is threatened — and especially🗹 if the Inquisitor doesn’t let Solas dispel hi꧒s friend in a more humane manner — Solas goes into a rage and even threatens to kill the mages who imprisoned his spirit friend.

7 💦 Broke Hearts: The꧅ Way He Revealed Vallaslin’s Slave Origins

This one came as a bit of a shock since, until this point, all the Dalish elves in the entire series had Vallaslin. They also assumed it was to honor ﷽the gods just like Lavellan says in the game. “A noble would mark his slaves to honor the gods he worshipped,” Solas says in response. Then the player can take him up 𒉰on his offer to have it removed or keep it.

His response to the Inquisitor’s nuanced take on the Dalish’s attempts to preserve their culture is lukewarm and elitist: “...for all the Dalish got wrong, they got one thing right: they made you.” Snooze. However, this information makes Fenris’ appearance in Dragon Age II a bit🅷 more ironic. His markings all over his body due to his lyrium infusion whereas his face, except for his chin, is mostly clear.

Ever focused on history and information,ꩲ Solas reveals the devastating information that the Dalish face markings known as “V꧋allaslin” are actually markings owners would use on their slaves in Elven culture.

“I didn’t tell you this to hurt you…” he says, always following up a painful reveal with an explanation and then an apology after offering to remove the Vallaslin in a romantic gesture. Given what we learn about how he led a revo🦹lution against the Evanuris, this moment has eveꦺn more meaning.

5 ♐ Broke Hearts: Breaking Up With The Elven Inquisitor

Almost immediately after removing Lavellan’s slave markings (or not), Solas’ face suddenly turns sullen and he says “...I’m sorry. I distracted you from your duty. It will never happen again.” Though this could have been a throwaway line for a normal person, Solas is actuaℱlly breaking up with the player character here.

Lavellan approaches him later in Skyhold demanding an explanation. In typical if frustrating fashion, Solas provides a cryptic non-explanation. “The blame is mine, not yours. It was irresponsible and selfish of me. Let that be enough.” He also tells Lavellan to “harden your heart to a cutting edge.” Most players found the above meme to be more than appropriate to convey how they felt. Players can also have a second break-up in Trespasser. But Solas won’t change his mind.

4 ꦏ ♏Melted Hearts: When He Asked Levallen To Dance

Fans who played Dragon Age: Inquisition will remember that, at the end of the quest "Wicked Eyes and Wicked Hearts," the Inquisitor can opt to dance with their cu⛄rrent love interest.

In his own style, Solas romantically extends the offer to Lavellan after his brusque re💫buff earlier on in the mission. The rare moment of Solas dropping his g🦩uard and standing on ceremony is sweet after such a taxing experience at the Orlesion court for the Inquisitor.

3 Broke Hearts: When He Reveals Himself As The Dread Wolf ༺ ဣ

Depending on how fans played their character, this twist didn’t come as such a shock at the end of the Trespasser DLC. Whether the Inquisitor saw it coming or not, the reveal still felt like a punch in the gut. Perhaps it was the simplicity with which Solas told player🍌s; perhaps it was just that terrible.

All the fetch quests, the elf root gathering, and rifts seemingly meant nothing. 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:The Dread Wolf still swears to pursue his goal of restoring his world and thus, destroying that of the Inquisitor’s. There can be no resignation betwe💮en the two disparate goals.

2 Melted Hearts: Any Time He Talks About The Fade ꩵ 💝

image of the Fade from Dragon Age: Inquisition

Solas always adopts a🐎 bit of a wistful tone whenever he discusses his encounters with the Fade. He talks romantically about ancient ruins and crumbling cities or uses flowery language to describe the slaughter of Wardens at Ostagar. These moments act as a window into Solas’ long𓆉ing for his old world — the world he himself had to lock away and fracture.

But his time in Thedas also changes him as he 🌠says that, in order to see more of the Fade, one must be “interesting.” “In truth, I have enjoyed experiencing more of life to find more of the Fade.” Even though his goal was to 🅠chase down a world long gone, he found opportunities for new growth in the one he created.

1 ♔ Broke Hearts: ওWhen He Refuses To Join The Inquisitor After Trespasser

image of Dragon Age character Solas looking at the Inquisitor's Rift Hand

This hits especially hard if the player Inquisitor romances Solas. But if the Inquisitor was also good 🅺friends with him, the betrayal is no less painful. Of course, if a fan’s player character punched Solas, they might have a very different conversation with Solas at the end of this DLC.

No matter what angle the Inquisitor takes — pleading, logic, anger — Solas will always refuse to join them. He is convinced that he must destroy the known world to repair the Veil and save the Elves. Perhaps fans will find out in 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Dragon Age 4 whether Solas gets redeemed or destroyed.
