There are many groups you can separate 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Dragon Age fans into. The characters they romance. The class they prefer to play. What origin in Origins? Mages or Templars in Dragon Age 2? Alistair or Hawke in 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Inquisition? Thoughts on Anders, thoughts on Solas, thoughts on blood magic... the list is endless. But perhaps the most notable distinction is whether or not fans know what you mean when you hear the words 'Dear Cullenites'. And, dear Gamerites, I fear it may be happening again.
For those of you who are unaware, Dear Cullenites was a major moment in the Dragon Age fandom, equal parts traumatic and cringe. Greg Ellis, the voice actor behind Cullen, did a video in-character as Cullen. The topic of this video? Cancel culture and the woke mind virus. In the video he defends JK Rowling, criticises Black Lives Matter and MeToo, and remixes Martin Luther King's 'I Have A Dream' speech with quotes from Ronald Regan. Again, all in character as Cullen. In fact, when he complains about cancel culture, he says that people are trying to cancel "me, and my voice actor, Greg Ellis".
As a result of this, Ellis was told he would never work on Dragon Age again. In fact, having previously been a prolific voice actor across multiple major gaming series, since this video he has received just a single video game role - 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Hogwarts Legacy. Even before this, Ellis was a known supporter of Donald Trump and Jordan Peterson, which didn't sit too well with Dragon Age fans, given how progressive it is in its depictions of queerness especially. This was the reason Dear Cullenites ever happened. And after the cast reveal for 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:The Veilguard, fans are worried again.
Ike Amadi Follows Several Controversial Twitter Accounts
Ike Amadi has been announced as the voice actor for Davrin in Dragon Age: The Veilguard, one of seven companions who accompanies you through the game. He has previous roles in 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Mass Effect 3 as Javik, 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Spider-Man as Aaron Davis (AKA Miles' uncle AKA Prowler), and Halo 5 as Spartan Lo💟cke, plus many more, so he has plenty of experience. But c🅺an be troubling.
Amongst the people Amadi follows you will find Libs of TikTok (an account mostly dedicated to belittling trans people), Andrew Tate (168澳洲幸运5开奖网:who surely needs no introduction), The Federalist (a publication that believes the 2020 Presidential Election was stolen), Tony Heller (a renowned climate change denier), Count Dankula (a libertarian who trained his dog to respond to the phrase "gas the Jews"), and Mark Kern. The gamers amongst us may be very familiar with Mark Kern, better known on Twitter as Grummz, as the architect of GamerGate 2. Together, these represent the exact opposite of the ideals of Dragon Age and its fandom, and it feels like Greg Ellis all over again. Amadi only follows 331 people, and a big chunk of that is made up of other voice actors. It's mostly just these guys and his coworkers.
Of course, following does not necessarily equal an endorsement. But following this many people of a specific political persuasion - the kind that would criticise The Veilguard as woke sight-unseen and would call the inclusion of a Black elf such as Davrin 'a DEI elf' - will not sit right with Dragon Age fans. It's also important to point out that Amadi doesn't appear to have tweeted anything himself in support of these people, or any statements aligned with these points of view. He mainly retweets promo for projects he's been in, and even then very rarely - just once this year, for 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Helldivers 2.
People may label me the thought police for looking into Amadi this way when, again, he hasn't ever said anything controversial or publicly supported anything controversial anyone else has said. But especially after Cullen, fans have a right to be concerned that a man with these associations is now one of the faces of the series. Hopefully, we won't have to sit through Dear Davrinites any time soon.
