is coming soon to hopefully bring the franchise away from fighting games. Yes, there have been several other types of Dragon Ball games in the past. Xenoverse took the series into MMO territory, but still largely played like a fighting game. Handheld games have told Goku's story as an RPG, but obviously went nowhere near the production value we get on modern machines. The footage of Kakarot so far promises the best chance we'll get to actually playing the anime. Which is why it needs to cover the events of Dragon Ball Super.

I'm Tired Of The Frieza Saga

I've played many Dragon Ball games over the years. The bulk of my time with these games was spent reliving the Saiyan and Frieza sagas. Back in the late 1990s and early 2000s, that made sense. The English dub was slowly working its way through the Cell and Buu sagas, so the games couldn't outpace them. There's also the fact the Frieza Saga contains some of the most iconic characters and images in Dragon Ball histor🍎y. Who doesn't remember Goku's first time going Super Saiyan, or the antics of the Ginyu Force?

Here in 2020, however, Dragon Ball is so much more than Frieza. Or at least it should be. Unfortunately, most attention is still given to those early DBZ stories. Frieza was the headlining villain in Dragon Ball's Jump Force roster, with Buu given passing inclusion as a DLC character. Even Dragon Ball Kakarot's own advertising seems to focus more on how it adapts the Saiyan invasion and Frieza fight. Enough is enough. There was a whole anime series called Dragon Ball Super that concluded recently and introduceꦺd so many that would be cool to see in a video game.

Let Me Play The Tournament Of Power

Dragon Ball Super was at its best during the high-stakes, high-action, but still wacky Tournament of Power. It would be a treat to play through the saga using Kakarot's more open world engine. Imagine a true Dragon Ball battle royale with beams flying everywhere and explosions all around as the player freely dashes around to challenge multiple opponents. Dragon Ball FighterZ deserve applause for including some of Super's mo🎀re popular characters, but they were bound to a 1v1 format.

Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot also promises side chapters where players will get to experience events as characters like Trunks and Gotenks. This is another thing that would benefit greatly from Super's storylines. Let us tag along with Hit on one of his assassinations or go on a bizarre Galactic Patrol mission as Jaco. Super expanded the Dragon Ball universe beyond just one universe, and Kakarot's gameplay🅰 would give fans a 🦋unique opportunity to explore it.

A Super Opportunity

Unfortunately, everything we know about Kakarot points to it being a DBZ-only affair. There's the plain fact that the game is called Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot and not Dragon Ball Super: Kakarot, or even just Dragon Ball: Kakarot. It could just be a branding thing, as most fans refer to the whole franchise as a whole as "DBZ" or Dragon Ball Z. But co🉐nsidering we've seen no footage of Beerus, Super Saiyan Blue, or anything past the Buu Saga, it seems the "Z" in the title indicates we're only getting that part of Goku's life.

Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot releases in a matter of days, so it's a little late to ask the developers to reconsider the course of the game. I'll have to play through the Frieza Saga again whether I like it or not. There is, however, a that will add "two original episodes and a new story." So maybe there's still a chance to train with Whis or battle Goku Black in Kakarot's gorgeous visual style. I certainly hope so. If not, maybe Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot will sell well enough to warrant Dragon Ball Super: Kakarot in the future.
