These monsters are spread all over the five islands in Dragon Quest Treasures, but this guide is focused exclusively on the Paternoggin. Thankfully, there is a whole host of potential bestial buddies to recruit here. We'll help show you where to find the monsters, how to beat them, and detail what they bring to the team.

Updated December 20, 2022: We've updated this guide to include the rare metal and jewel monsters. With this update this guide will help you locate every single enemy that is present on the Paternoggin.

Housekeeping

Level ScalingDragon Quest Treasures, Furious Orc Yelling

There is some form of level scaling at play. However, while early monsters will increase in levels as you do, they won't match your pace. So, level🐓ing 𝓰up is not fruitless, as you can still outlevel the monsters you encounter in the wild, even if they do increase in strength as the game progresses.

Metal And Jewel Monsters

Dragon Quest Treasures, Confronting The Ruby Golem

These guys are a staple of the series, and you will encounter a few in your travels here. The monsters will be listed alongside the other, more standard, creatures. However, there are two things you need to know. All of these special monster types are rare, AND are recruitable. So use your best Buddy Bullet if you see one. Secondly, and most importantly, defeating them will provide you with a handsome reward, but they will try to flee. So, use your Monsters' Dragon Attacks to put them down fast.

Jewel-type monsters will drop a Treasure for you, while metal-type monsters will provide you with a ton of experience points.

Day And NightDragon Quest Treasures, Viewing The Paternoggin From Above

It is worth noting that some monsters will only appear at night. This can make things tricky, as monsters are far more powerful at night. Be very careful before exploring the Paternoggin when the sun is down. If you aren't prepared, you may find that you have bitten off more than you can chew!

The Forgotten Factory

Dragon Quest Treasures, Palatian Plains, The Paternoggin, The Factory

The Forgotten Factor🧜y is the first section of the game you will fight your way through. It features a few enemies, all of which are quite low-level.

Dracky

Dragon Quest Treasures, Dracky Profile

Weaknesses

Explosion, Light, Piercing

Strengths

Wind, Gravity, Dark, Sleep

Forte

Glide

The forgotten factory only has two monsters (for now). It has the Dracky and the Shadows. Drackys hav🎃e a few ranged attacks, but you can pretty much just bulrush them. You will encounter far stronger Drackys in the Lickspittle Glade.

Shadow

Dragon Quest Treasures, Shadow Profile

Weaknesses

Fire, Wind, Explosion, Electricity, Light

Strengths

Ice, Gravity, Dark,☂ Slash, Impact, Piercing,🐓 Poison, Debilitation

Forte

Stealth

The Shadows, on the other hand, are a little more dangerous. Prepare to dodge them when they sprint toward you in their shadow form. When ♈shadows do this, they follow up with a very hard-hitting attack. They are pretty resistant to all physical attacks. However, they are weak to a number of magic types: including fire. So, a plain, old Slime can be a pretty powerful ally when fighting Shadows. While Shadows are primarily in The Factory, they are all over the Palatial Plains at night.

Not all Shadows are created equally. The Shadows you run into in The Factory are pretty weak. However, the Shadows you encounter at night can be pretty fearsome. Especially when you are under-leveled.

Palatial Plains (North)

Dragon Quest Treasures, Palatian Plains, The Paternoggin, North Palatial Plains

The Palatial Plains can be separated into two sections: the north and south regions. So, for the purposes of this guide we are going to do▨ exac🎃tly that.

Slime

Dragon Quest Treasures, Slime Profile

Weaknesses

Dark, Slash, Poison

Strengths

Gravity, Light, Debilitation

Forte

Launch

The slime is the most basic enemy in the game. They are spread all around The Paternoggin, but you will encounter a concentrated group of them right outside of The Forgotten Factory.

Sham Hatwitch

Dragon Quest Treasures, Sham Hatwitch Profile

Weaknesses

Ice, Earth, Slash

Strengths

Fire, Water, Gravity, Stun, Debilitation

Forte

Sprint

Th🅘e porky fellow is pres🍨ent all throughout the Northern section of the Paternoggin. The biggest cluster of them is found to east of the ruins. Their weakness to slash attacks means that Erik and Mia are able to make quick work of them with their standard combo attack.

Orc

Dragon Quest Treasures, Orc Profile

Weaknesses

Wind

Strengths

Earth, Stun, Debilitation

Forte

Scan

The Orc is one of the first heavy hitting monsters you will encounter. They primarily hang out in the ruins area o💯f the Palatial Plains, which is the northernmost section of the plains. Just dodge to the side when they ✃come charging.

At night,ꦇ they will sleep, so it is super easy to hit them with sneak attacks.

Muddy Hand

Dragon Quest Treasures, Muddy Hand Profile

Weaknesses

Wind, Explosion, Slash

Strengths

Water, Earth, Gravity, Stun, Poison

Forte

Stealth

The muddy hand resides in the eastern section of the Paternoggin. The attack you need to prepare yourself for with the Muddy Hands is when they disappear into the ground and rush toward you. When you see this happening, you need to get out of the way. It is pretty similar to that attack the shadows do.🎶 However, unlike the Shadows, Muddy Hands are weak to slash attacks. So, go♏ing to town on them with your regular combo attack will finish them off quickly.

You can also encounter the "Hardy Hand" in the Paternoggin. This is the ☂metal equivalent. They will often run, so just do your best to knock them down and score the kill. They are both a ton of experience if you manage to be♔at them.

King Slime

Dragon Quest Treasures, King Slime Profile

Weaknesses

Gravity, Dark, Poison

Strengths

Water, Explosion, Light, Sleep, Stun

Forte

Launch

The King Slime is only found in one location in the Paternoggin: the Northeast corner of Palatial Plains. The King Slime will be accompanied by a number of his subjects. Which is to say, he is surrounded by normal slimes. When the King Slime jumps up into the sky, and hovers for a moment, he is going to come crashing down. So, you should roll away. Since the King Slime is weak to Darkness, an early monster to use againܫst him would be the Dracky.

At the beginning꧃ of the game, he will be quite a bit higher level than you, which makes him one of your first opp𒉰ortunities to befriend a powerful monster.

Palatial Plains (South)

Dragon Quest Treasures, Palatian Plains, The Paternoggin, South Palatial Plains

Watch out, once you 💮start venturing into the southern stretch of the Palatial Plains, the monsters can start to get a touch tougher!

Restless Armor

Dragon Quest Treasures, Restless Armour Profile

Weaknesses

Earth, Light, Impact, Stun

Strengths

Fire, Explosion, Dark, Poison

Forte

Sprint

The Restless Armor is in the southern section of the Palatial Plains. They are hanging out in the area in front of the Sylphanian Stockade. They hit pretty hard, but their most obnoxious trait is how they buff themselves up, receiving less damage in the process. Surprisingly, when they aren't assisted by spells, they don't actually have particularly strong defense against physical attacks.

Gold Golem

Dragon Quest Treasures, Gold Golem Profile

Weaknesses

Wind, Gravity, Dark, Impact, Sleep

Strengths

Fire, Earth, Electricity, Light, Stun, Poison

Forte

Launch

While rare, you can sometimes find a Gold Golem wandering around the southern section of the Paternoggin. They♔ will be hanging around where all the Restless Armor congregat🔯e.

Jade Slime

Dragon Quest Treasures, Jade Slime Profile

Weaknesses

Water, Dark, Poison

Strengths

Electricity, Gravity, Light, Impact, Pierci🌼ng, Debilitation

Forte

Launch

The Jade sli𝕴me is exceedingly rare, but they do occasionally appear on top of the hill that overlooks the southern section of the Palatial Plains. This area is North of where you find all the Restless Armor enemies. The Jade Slime will only appear at night, so you are going to have to brave the darkness to find one.

Metal Slime

Dragon Quest Treasures, Metal Slime Profile

Weaknesses

Debilitation

Strengths

All Stats Other Than Debilitation

Forte

Launch

You will sometimes find the Metal Slime at the top of the Teardrop Falls. This Slime is extraordinarily resilient. This is unfortunate, as they are typically looking to run, so you want to kill them as quickly as possible. They are immune to attacks of nearly every element. So, often your best bet is to bum-rush them. Your Dragon Attack will be useful for pinning these slippery creatures down. Just remember, killing them will provide you with a ton of experience points, so make ꦗkilling them a priority when you encounter one.

Hades Condor

Dragon Quest Treasures, Hades Condor Profile

Weaknesses

Electricity, Dark, Piercing

Strengths

Wind, Earth, Light, Sleep, Stun

Forte

Glide

In between the waterfall and where you can find the Restless Armor, you can fight two Hades Condors. They are always here, and nowhere else. So, if you are looking for a tougher creature 🌜with the Glide Forte early on, you will want to head for this area. Conveniently, the first monster you get with the Glide ability, the Dracky, is strong against the Hades Condor, as it is weak𓃲 to darkness!

Lickspittle Glade

Dragon Quest Treasures, Lickspittle Glade Map

The Lickspittle Glade is the area that surrounds the Pirate's Stockade. The monsters here will be considerably stronger than those you have been fighting in the Palatial Plains. However, with a little strategizing, you can still beat them. If you are lucky, you may even recruit a few tough allies capable of giving you a huge advantage in the early game!

Hat Hamwitch

Dragon Quest Treasures, Hat Hamwitch Profile

Weaknesses

Earth, Ice, Slash

Strengths

Water, Explosion, Stun, Debilitation

Forte

Sprint

Not far from the Pirates' Stockade, you will find this more powerful version of the Sham Hatwitch. The Hat Hamwitch is littererd all over the Lickspittle Glade. Whereever you go, you will find them.

Orc King

Dragon Quest Treasures, Orc King Profile

Weaknesses

Electricity

Strengths

Water, Stun, Debilitation

Forte

Scan

This buffed up version of the Orc hangs around the Lickspittle Glade. They will be one of the first monsters you encounter after leaving the Pirate's Stockade. If you push forward early in the game, you will encounter them when they are well above your level. This can make them a potent early-game recruit, but you will want to be careful when engaging them, as they will hit absurdly hard. Moreover, you likely won't have any monsters that can take advantage of their one weakness.

Golem

Dragon Quest Treasures, Golem Profile

Weaknesses

Water, Wind, Gravily, Impact, Sleep

Strengths

Fire, Earth, Ice, Electricity, Stun, Poison

Forte

Launch

These resilient giants hang out near the center of the Lickspittle Glades. They all huddle together in the ruins. While a single Golem is pretty strong, especia♑lly if you encounter them early on, fighting three of them at once can be an absolute nightmare. So, be prepared before you confr🐷ont them. Or, at the very least, save first.

Cutie Slime

Dragon Quest Treasures, Cutie Slime Profile

Weaknesses

Dark, Slash, Poison

Strengths

Gravity, Light, Debilitation

Forte

Launch

The Cutie Slime is a lot like the standard slime, except they use ice magic instead of fire magic. However, one distinct advantage that this pink slime has over their blue brethren is that they come packing a heal. This both makes them a welcomed companion, and has the potential to m𝓰ake them a more an🦩noying enemy to fight. Especially if you are under leveled when you run into them.

Great Sabrecat

Dragon Quest Treasures, Great Sabercat Profile

Weaknesses

Earth, Poison

Strengths

Wind, Stun, Debilitation

Forte

Sprint

There are two Great Sabrecats prowling around in the Eastern section of the map. If you follow the path toward The Forsaken Station from the ruins, you will encounter one of them directly on the path. If you encounter it early on, and wish to battle it, you will absolutely want to isolate it from the nearby Sham Hamwitches, as🎃 the Great Sabrecat will be more than enough of a handful on their own.

Ruby Golem

Dragon Quest Treasures, Ruby Golem Profile

Weaknesses

Wind, Ice, Gravity, Sleep

Strengths

Fire, Earth, Explosion, Light, Slash, Piercing, Stun, P🍷oison

Forte

Launch

The Ruby Golem is found north of the ruins that sit smack-dab in the cen🐼𒊎ter of the Lower section of the Paternoggin. Like the Jade Slime, the Ruby Golem only comes out at night.
